Review

Uwe Boll is a brilliant director! This receives a standing ovation! Okay, that's just a joke.
It's easy to bash Boll as his directorial performance has not been anywhere near satisfactory let alone excellent. However, one must agree that this is one of his better works (if to compare with his other flops like "Bloodrayne"). Having said that, this reviewer is not saying that it is as great as its German PC game franchise - Uwe Boll being Uwe Boll always seems to make everything more dramatic and over the top.

Let's just say that if you substitute all the actors to Bollywood stars - the dramatic hero being Akshay Kumar, the hopeless damsel-in-distress being Mallika Sherawat, the invincible soldier being Sunjay Dutt, the comic relief Emilio being Johnny Lever and Amitabh Bacchan as the antagonist, you might find that it makes more sense and you can actually understand what's inside Boll's ludicrous mind.

As it is, for Hollywood standards, this movie is too tacky to even begin with. The opening action sequence does not attract, the humour is too daft, the background score is boring and uninspiring (and Dr Krigger's obsession with Wagner's composition does not translate well on screen) and the actors are just so and so. Except for Til Schweiger (who was last seen in "Inglorious Basterds") who gave a little bit of colour to the main role Jack Carver, most of the other roles are easily forgotten. Emmanuelle Vaugier (most famous in a role of Detective Angel in "CSI New York") as journalist Valerie Cardinal seems lost at times and her typical American sarcasm only annoys rather than amuses.

The only interesting part of the whole experience is the Yamakazi-like action between Carver and the genetically engineered soldier. The freerunning/parkour show that lasted five minutes between the two would be the highlight of this film.

Watch out for the annoying whale lady at the start and end of the movie. If you want to know how you would feel watching this film as a whole, well, the whole movie feels like that whale lady - whiny, overdramatic but fail to excite. Boll should stop wasting German government's fund and act like a serious director for once. Stop ruining every single video game out there!

Plot Summary for

In a mysterious nearby forest, a group of mercenaries are attacked. A scientist, Dr. Krieger, watches this from a secret research facility, obviously pleased with the results of his work, which is the cause of the death (which is unknown) of the mercenaries. In Seattle, a veteran newspaper editor makes arrangements to send his two arch-rival reporters, Tom Moore and Valerie Constantine, to check out the mysterious reports coming from an island in the Pacific Northwest. Once on the island, it doesn't take long for the duo and their Captain, Jack Carver, to find trouble. The main mercenary commander Maria Sanchez immediately tries to capture them. Valerie and Jack manage to escape but Tom is killed. The mercenaries are hot on their heels and Valerie and Jack argue about their plan. Jack wants to get off the island as quickly as possible by reaching his friend Emilio. Valerie, a seasoned reporter, wants to gather more evidence for her story. After several dramatic chases and an encounter with the strange creatures, Valerie, Jack and Emilio are captured and brought to Kreiger. Krieger wants Valerie to join him in reporting his accomplishments to the world. Meanwhile, in the lab, the creature escapes and tries to kill Jack. Jack and Emilio manage to elude the creature but others in the compound are not as lucky. The creature corners Valerie and she narrowly escapes death as Emilio and Jack reach her just in time. The loss of control sends Sanchez into a fury. Jack and Valerie are pursued by Sanchez as they make a frantic attempt to get off the island and alert the world.

Plot Summary

In the post-war, pre-Beatles London suburbs, a bright schoolgirl is torn between studying for a place at Oxford and the more exciting alternative offered to her by a charismatic older man

Reviews

An Education" is the story of a teenage girl's coming-of-age set in 1961 London, a city caught between the drab, post-war 1950s and the glamorous, more liberated decade to come.

Jenny (Carey Mulligan) stands on the brink of becoming a woman: a brilliantly witty and attractive 16-year-old whose suburban life is about to be blown apart by the utterly unsuitable 30-something David (Peter Sarsgaard).

Urbane and witty, David manages to charm her conservative parents Jack (Alfred Molina) and Marjorie (Cara Seymour). David introduces Jenny to a glittering new world of classical concerts and late-night suppers with his attractive friend and business partner, Danny (Dominic Cooper) and Danny's girlfriend, the beautiful but vacuous Helen (Rosamund Pike). Just as Jenny's family's long-held dream of getting their brilliant daughter into Oxford seems within reach, Jenny is tempted by another kind of life.

Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is a bright young girl on the cusp of her 17th birthday who finds herself in a whirlwind romance with a much older David (Peter Sarsgaard). Prior to meeting David, Jenny was trying to excel in her life by going to a prep school to get into Oxford. Once she sees the lifestyle David can provide, one she never imagined might so easily be hers, she is hooked and thoughts of Oxford go out the window. Then, when things are looking pretty good for Jenny with the dashing (yet a little too smooth) David, the truth hits her like a ton of bricks. Jenny goes from being a bright eyed school girl to a sophisticated young lady and then all the way back to questioning if she really knows who she is at all. Any more info will ruin the story. Go watch it and enjoy! An Education won the Audience Choice award and the Cinematography award at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

It's 1961 and attractive, bright 16-year-old schoolgirl, Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is poised on the brink of womanhood, dreaming of a rarefied, Gauloise-scented existence as she sings along to Juliette Greco in her Twickenham bedroom. Stifled by the tedium of adolescent routine, Jenny can't wait for adult life to begin. Meanwhile, she's a diligent student, excelling in every subject except the Latin that her father is convinced will land her the place she dreams of at Oxford University.

One rainy day, her suburban life is upended by the arrival of an unsuitable suitor, 30-ish David (Peter Sarsgaard). Urbane and witty, David instantly unseats Jenny's stammering schoolboy admirer, Graham (Matthew Beard). To her frank amazement, he even manages to charm her conservative parents Jack (Alfred Molina) and Marjorie (Cara Seymour), and effortlessly overcomes any instinctive objections to their daughter's older, Jewish suitor.

Very quickly, David introduces Jenny to a glittering new world of classical concerts and late-night suppers with his attractive friend and business partner, Danny (Dominic Cooper) and Danny's girlfriend, the beautiful but vacuous Helen (Rosamund Pike). David replaces Jenny's traditional education with his own version, picking her up from school in his Bristol roadster and whisking her off to art auctions and smoky clubs.

Under the pretext of an introduction to C.S. Lewis, David arranges to take Jenny on a weekend jaunt to Oxford with Danny and Helen. Later, using an ingenious mixture of flattery and fibbery, he persuades her parents to allow him to take their only daughter to Paris for her 17th birthday. David suggests that his "Aunt Helen" will once again act as a chaperone. Jack and Marjorie do not know that Jenny has chosen the date and place to lose her virginity.

Paris is all that Jenny imagined it would be, sex with David somewhat less so. On her return to Twickenham, Jenny's school friends are thrilled with her newfound sophistication but her headmistress (Emma Thompson) is scandalised and her English teacher Miss Stubbs (Olivia Williams) is deeply disappointed that her prize pupil seems determined to throw away her evident gifts and certain chance of higher education.

Just as the family's long-held dream of getting their brilliant daughter into Oxford seems within reach, Jenny is tempted by another kind of life. Will David be the making of Jenny or her undoing?

The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Michael Sheen had a fascinating interview with HitFix.com where he talked about his film The Damned United. In the film, Sheen portrays Brian Clough during his time as the coach of U.K. football (American "soccer") Leeds United. The Damned United brought Sheen to Toronto recently for the Toronto International Film Festival (alongside Anna Kendrick for Up In The Air and Xavier Samuel for The Loved Ones) and was released in U.K. theate »
A few hours ago I spoke with Michael Sheen regarding his new movie “The Damned United”. While I’ll have much more on his new film soon, I was able to ask Michael about some of his other projects like “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”, “Tron Legacy”, “Alice in Wonderland” and the “Underworld” franchise. So if you’d like to hear what Michael had to say about those projects, hit the jump.
The first thing Michael told me was he’s heard the rumors about a 4th “Underworld”, but no one has contacted him yet.
We then spoke about the next “Twilight” movie, “New Moon” and he revealed the main reason he took the role of Aro is because of his daughter. He also talked about working on Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” and explained his love of the book and how the movie is going to be different. »
The Welsh actor reveals the late Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Leeds United manager's family refused to take a look at the script for The Damned United and turned down invites to see previews of the film.
Sheen can understand why they were dead set against the idea of seeing the movie, but he hopes they've since had the chance to check it out.
He tells WENN, "His family were against the film because they were very against the book that it was an adaptation of. The book is a very dark portrayal of Brian and we tried to celebrate him more in the film, but I understood why the family were very wary of the film.
"We offered to send them a copy of the script and they didn't want to look at that and we offered them private screenings of the film, but they didn't want that either. I hope they've seen the film since and realised we weren't trying to make him look bad." »

One film that American audiences probably won’t make as popular as all those listed above is the film he’s currently doing press for at the Toronto Film Festival. The Damned United is a soccer biopic about Brian Clough’s 44-day reign as the coach of Leeds United.

Sheen was in Toronto promoting “The Damned United” when Empire got the chance to ask him about the sci-fi adventure. According to them, Sheen’s role actually sounds smaller than originally thought. A couple of month’s ago the world had him pegged as the film’s villain. Either that, or he’s downplaying his character’s significance:

We've known for a while that Michael Sheen would be in Tron Legacy. Sheen has started to explode into high-profile films, and while he's been stuck in the Underworld films and now the Twilight series, he's also impressed us in Frost/Nixon and The Queen. His presence in the new Tron flick is nothing but a good thing. Coming Soon talked to Sheen in Toronto, where his film The Damned United premiered. Michael Sheen, in Toronto promoting The Damned United, has revealed a couple of tidbits of information about Tron Legacy to Coming Soon. His role sounds more like a cameo than a fully-fledged character, since he only seems to be talking about one scene. Plot:
When Chris Rock's daughter, Lola, came up to him crying and asked, "Daddy, how come I don't have good hair?" the bewildered comic committed himself to search the ends of the earth and the depths of black culture to find out who had put that question into his little girl's head. Rock visits hair salons and styling battles, scientific laboratories, and Indian temples to explore the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people. Celebrities such as Ice-T, Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symone, Maya Angelou, and Reverend Al Sharpton all candidly offer their stories and observations to Rock while he struggles with the task of figuring out how to respond to his daughter's question. What he discovers is that black hair is a big business that doesn't always benefit the black community and little Lola's question might well be bigger than his ability to convince her that the stuff on top of her head is nowhere near as important as what is inside.

Chris Rock explores the wonders of African-American hairstyles. |
Behind the scenes here lurk a few dudes who have brought us some of the finest short-attention-span TV, so it's no wonder GH is -- I'm going to try and describe it without any puns -- crammed with quick testimonials from a range of familiar faces and sociopolitical without a heavy hand. I'm surprised it's being released in the fall, however, since it feels like this comedy-doc could have swapped places with The Cove. Meanwhile, remember a few years back when documentaries such a Spellbound broke through into mainstream pop culture? I hope GH brings back the Fun Documentary era.

Synopsis

Basically, 'Good hair' is defined as straight hair. That concept has social and political implications, and fuels a billion dollar industry.
When Chris Rock’s daughter, Lola, came up to him crying and asked, “Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” the bewildered comic committed himself to search the ends of the earth and the depths of black culture to find out who had put that question into his little girl's head. Rock visits hair salons and styling battles, scientific laboratories, and Indian temples to explore the way black hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relationships, and self-esteem of black people. Celebrities such as Ice-T, Kerry Washington, Nia Long, Paul Mooney, Raven Symoné, Maya Angelou, and Reverend Al Sharpton all candidly offer their stories and observations to Rock while he struggles with the task of figuring out how to respond to his daughter’s question. What he discovers is that black hair is a big business that doesn’t always benefit the black community and little Lola’s question might well be bigger than his ability to convince her that the stuff on top of her head is nowhere near as important as what is inside.

Reviews

Filmmaker Jeff Stilson follows Rock to hair salons, barber shops, celebrities' homes and the annual Bonner Bros. Hair Show, an African-American hairstyle expo that culminates in the Hair Battle Royale, in which where star-status stylists - including Tanya Crume, Kevin Kirk, Jason Griggers, Freddie J and Derek J -- stage spectacular, outrageously costumed, carefully choreographed performances in which they style hair while dancing and doing acrobatics to win the best stylist title.

Interviewed at length, actress Nia Long reveals that she's completely obsessed with her weave, and that meeting up with a lover in the shower -- where her hair might get wet and nappy -- is more intimate than getting into bed with him. Also interviewed, women who work as teachers, secretaries and other professions say they spend a small fortune, even go into debt, to have their hair relaxed or get weaves. And, assuring equal opportunity, Rock interviews African-American men, some of whom pay for the 'good hair' of the women in their lives, admitting that it's important to them, too, or raising their eyes as an expression of 'what can you
Beneath Chris Rock's smart and extremely funny commentary is a solidly researched study about what are in fact racist attitudes towards physical appearance. People with 'good hair' (i.e. straight hair) get better jobs, are more popular, have better sex lives.

On the flip side, 'Nappy' hair is ugly. 'Nappy' hair is also black. And, the preoccupation with fitting the popular, media-supported concept of beauty has given rise to an industry that attracts billions of consumer dollars every year -- dollars that could and would otherwise be used to fill more substantial needs, such as education and eating better quality foods. The film is provocative and very moving, especially when you see that the sometimes torturous process of hair straightening begins when African-American women are just tots of two or three years of age. "Yes, it hurts," they say. So, the film raises a serious question about whether the popular slogan "Black is Beautiful" should include natural hair.

Review

Several years after leaving the orphanage to which her father never returned for her, Gabrielle Chanel finds herself working in a provincial bar both. She's both a seamstress for the performers and a singer, earning the nickname Coco from the song she sings nightly with her sister. A liaison with Baron Balsan gives her an entree into French society and a chance to develop her gift for designing increasingly popular hats. When she falls in love with English businessman Arthur Capel further opportunities open up, though life becomes ever more complicated.
Audrey Tautou (THE DAVINCI CODE, AMELIE) plays the legendary "Coco" Chanel in an enthralling exploration of her early life before she rose to worldwide fame as the most celebrated fashion designer of the 20th Century. We meet the young Gabrielle Chanel, illegitimate daughter of a travelling salesman who learns to sew in a Catholic orphanage before following her singing ambitions lead her to a cabaret club. It is here where Chanel earns the nickname Coco and also where she catches the eye of several high society gentlemen who would ignite her passion and become instrumental in the development of her remarkable career.
More sentimental than chic, Gallic biopic "Coco Before Chanel" nonetheless knits a convincing portrait of the designer's journey from her humble beginnings as a provincial seamstress to the halls of Parisian haute couture. Focusing on the era in which Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel (winningly played by Audrey Tautou) served as mistress of an eccentric millionaire, the film reveals, via meticulous period imagery, how the couturier forged a style that would change the way women dressed in the 20th century. Warner Bros.' April 22 Gaul release should scoot gracefully down the theatrical runway before wafting overseas like a splash of No. 5.
The first of two Chanel biopics skedded to hit screens this year, this one, co-written by helmer Anne Fontaine and her sister Camille, limits its scope to the time in the designer's late 20s when she began showcasing her distinct creative voice. The opening, purely visual flashback shows the young Chanel arriving at an ominous Catholic orphanage after her mother has died and her father has left to support the family.
The stark setting and drab religious garb -- superbly rendered by production designer Olivier Radot and costume designer Catherine Leterrier -- will have an enduring impact on her future designs, whose cornerstones will be simplicity and sophistication.
The action then jumps to a decade or so later, as busy bee Chanel (Tautou) is working days as a seamstress and nights as a cabaret entertainer ("to pay for her dresses"), alongside her sis, Adrienne (Marie Gillain). During a fun and flashy dance number, she crosses paths with debauched heir Etienne Balsan (Benoit Poelvoorde); before long, she's moved to his country estate, where she serves as his friend, mistress and inhouse style consultant.
Caught in a lavish world where women overdress themselves in bails of lace, suffocating corsets and hats oozing with flowers, Chanel begins to experiment with her lover's clothing, designing outfits that are both easier to wear and easier on the eye. These sequences are among the film's strongest, revealing the contrast between the heavy 19th-century styles worn by the epoch's wealthier class and Chanel's vision of a sleek, intelligent wardrobe to help place women on an equal footing with men.
Pic's third section brings a melodramatic twist to Chanel's sudden and impossible affair with a British industrialist (Alessandro Nivola). The drawing-room drama and ensuing love triangle feel a tad forced, but they do explain how Chanel is pushed to liberate herself from kept-woman status through her relentless work ethic and gifted eye.
For a film that is, after all, about fashion, helmer Fontaine ("How I Killed My Father" and the glossy "The Girl From Monaco") and d.p. Christophe Beaucarne ("Irina Palm") make things extremely pleasurable to look at. Between lingering wide shots and gliding p.o.v. camerawork, the crisp visuals show Chanel forever analyzing the stylistic tendencies of her surroundings.
Tautou's perf is one of her finest to date, revealing her character's headstrong personality through smart delivery and a permanent but attractive pout. As with his portrayal of a serial killer in "Man Bites Dog," Belgian thesp Poelvoorde manages to make the fairly despicable Etienne seem quite likable by the end of the movie.
From the opening sequence's jerky movement and obstructed vision (our heroine is being transported to an orphanage by horse and cart), it's clear this is going to be no ordinary biopic. The story of Coco Chanel is packed with incident, but this version ends where many would just be kicking into gear: the moment Chanel the woman becomes Chanel the brand. Sitting on the stairs at the triumphant conclusion of her first fashion show, Chanel (Audrey Tautou) unleashes a rare smile.
In covering Chanel's love affairs and her transformation from nightclub chanteuse to sought-after couturier, director Anne Fontaine makes one uncomfortable fact clear: despite her determination and strength of character, it's men who shape Chanel's life, from the father who abandons her to the playboy lover (Benoît Poelvoorde) who introduces her both to her future clientele and her one great love, Boy Capel (Alessandro Nivola), the man who finances her fashion dream.
Focusing as it does on Chanel's early life, anyone hoping for a glitzy fashion spectacular may be disappointed. Chanel's groundbreaking androgyny, coupled with her love for simple fabrics and shapes, make her seem almost dowdy among the elaborate costumes of the time. But if you know your fashion history, there's fun to be had spotting the origins of her most famous designs: the nuns of her convent orphanage in graphic black and white, the striped Breton fishermen's tops, the appropriation of men's clothes.
Fired in the crucible of poverty and abandonment, Chanel's cynical, fiercely individual temperament is far from likeable, and it's to Tautou's credit that our sympathies always lie with her. By turns waspish, brave and vulnerable, her gravely luminous presence anchors the film in a world that's not only faultlessly stylish, but full of real human love and loss, too.
Her name may be synonymous with fashion and glamour but make no mistake, this is not a fashion film. And it's not particularly glamorous.
The title translates as Coco before Chanel and that's exactly what this story is - the early years of the fashion icon's life. It begins with her father abandoning her at an orphanage when she was 12 and follows her as she works her way up from being a common cabaret singer to a woman of means, by way of various wealthy men.
Tautou's performance as the prickly upstart is excellent, if not terribly likeable. Determined to rise above her station, Chanel calculates and manipulates to get what she wants, while remaining staunchly proud and looking down on the rich, frivolous women around her.
Chanel's unconventional charm may have won over her patrons, but Tautou's interpretation struggles to win over the audience. Rather, her steely determination rubs off on you, leaving you strangely untouched by the central tragedy of the film.
Director Anne Fontaine wanted to focus on just one part of Chanel's life and much of the film is spent in a French chateau, where a love triangle slowly forms between the young Chanel and two men - Etienne Balsan (Poelvoorde) and Arthur Capel (Nivola).
Much like Chanel's signature designs, the film is precise, tailored and stylish - but conservative. Things are hinted at but rarely spelt out. The film seeks to explain how Chanel became the mogul she did and reveals various, subtle threads that shaped her life. But the whole thing feels like it is laying the foundations for the film you really want to see - the one about a glamorous designer conquering the world.

This is the remarkable story of a K through 12 school on Chicago's impoverished, high crime West Side, that has been sending 100% of graduating seniors to four year colleges and universities for 30 years. More than half of them are accepted by tier one schools and the class of 2008 was awarded more than $4.5 million in college scholarships. Providence St. Mel is a school that has completely escaped America's educational crisis.
Paul J. Adams III, an African-American man with activist roots in the 1960s civil rights movement, came from a family of teachers. After being black listed himself as a teacher in Alabama because of his civil rights activities, he moved to Chicago, received a master’s degree in psychology, and then landed a job as guidance counselor at Providence St. Mel, an all-black parochial school on Chicago’s notorious drug-ridden, gang-ruled West Side. "The Providence Effect" is an account of an individual man, the inner city Chicago school he founded, and the student lives that school has changed and saved.
If there's an argument against the Providence St. Mel prep school being the supreme model for remaking American education, you won't find it in "The Providence Effect," a portrait of a highly successful Chicago institution that feels more like a grant application than a social-issue doc. A PSA for educational tough love, "Providence" has earned better grades on the fest circuit than it's likely to get in a theatrical arena, where nonfiction frequently flunks out. Limited release begins Sept. 25.
Helmer Rollin Binzer's chief problem is tardiness: As "The Providence Effect" commences, Paul Adams III and his experiment in highly disciplined education have long been established. They've achieved a 100% success rate in college placement of seniors, and the bouquets have long been thrown; Ronald Reagan is the president we see visiting Providence St. Mel and praising the man who remade it. All of which is well and good but utterly devoid of conflict, aka drama. Witnessing testimonials about what's been accomplished don't quite match seeing something happen.
And a prime opportunity for something compelling seems to have been missed. Providence St. Mel decides to open a charter K-5 school, to see if its policies can translate to a public building and younger students. Reflecting on the school's success, Adams catalogues all the problems they faced, including unions, work rules and "things that don't have anything to do with children." But what are they? Why don't we get to see all this happen? Watching the struggle unfold would have made a movie out of the garland of roses Binzer throws at Adams.
Opening with a graduation ceremony and establishing the school's credentials, Binzer has little to offer, it seems, besides a parade of talking heads (from inside St. Mel's, or among its graduates), all of whom praise Adams and the school he resurrected after it was abandoned by the Chicago archdiocese. Adams' credentials as a social activist are established via footage of the civil rights fight of the '60s, in which Adams participated -- the point being that while there's no shortage of nobility in "The Providence Effect," a little such confrontation would have cured its ills as cinema.
Production values are largely adequate, although Tom Dumont and Ted Matson's score shows exceptional promise and works well with others.
"The Providence Effect" is the story of an individual man, the inner city Chicago school he founded, and the student lives the school has changed and saved. The school, Providence - St. Mel, has a 30-year 100% college placement record; with an "old school" approach to learning --- "Do the work" --- and a dedicated corps of teachers and administrators, Providence – St. Mel can serve as the model for revamping all of American education.

A rich businessman tries to hide his extramarital affair with a supermodel. To save his skin, he bribes a waiter into pretending to be the supermodel's boyfriend. What follows is a series of mistaken identities and misunderstandings. Nostalgia, sheer delight and an air of expectancy surrounds the first album by the once reigning composers of Bollywood, Nadeem-Shravan, as they come back after a long hiatus for Vashu Bhagnani, (ex -producer No.1 ), for a comedy directed by David Dhawan, DO KNOT DISTURB. Nadeem- Shravan have been the undisputed numero uno composers of Bollywood in the early eighties and nineties and have composed innumerable chartbusters along with their ever reliable lyricist, Sameer, tracks that are still embedded in the hearts of music lovers all over the world . So, lets press on the play button and see if with DO KNOT DISTURB they are able to top the charts once again?
The album begins with Nadeem Shravan going retro as Dev Anand`s evergreen super hit number, ``Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar`` (CID) gets a facelift and is refurbished with a whole lot of arranged programmed rhythm, feminine chorals in the form of ``Zulfaen Khol Khal Ke``. The similarity (especially in the `mukhda`) is so striking that its indeed preposterous to assume that this is a coincidence. However it does entertain mainly due to the singing by the lead pair, the extremely choosy Sonu Niigaam and Anuradha Sriram, the highly talented classical singer from South . Anuradha shows that talent knows no bounds as she is completely at ease in this propositioning and flirtatious number that will look nice on screen, if picturised properly and has the capability of attracting the front benchers. Sameer`s lyrics deserve mention as the naughty mood is conveyed quite effectively and nicely.
``Dont Ever Leave Me`` is vintage Nadeem-Shravan, although the sweet melody that they have always relied upon (in this case its Ajay`s DILWALE) takes a backseat here and its more of techno and electronic beats and synthesized rhythm. In keeping with moving times NS have resorted to this, but while this may appeal to some, it will disappoint their hard core fans who thrived on their lilting melodies. As it is the background arrangements are old fashioned with foot tapping sounds and a constant monotonous rhythm. Sameer`s use of English and Hindi is appealing and doesn`t look forced, it seems a part of the proceedings. Shaan and Shreya go through their rendition like professionals.
It`s a vigorous thumping start for ``Mere Naal``, and indeed a pleasant surprise to find K.K and Shreya behind the mike for this highly energetic `Bhangra` based `fulltoo timepass` dance number that has a slight retro touch to it as well. All credit to NS for bringing these two highly talented singers to sing this number and one is sure that this will surely break the image of the two being just serious singers. Shreya`s voice modulation is amazing and so is KK, who is simply bombastic in this `masaledar` number (the back up vocalists Jigar Saraiya and Nikita Kanwar provide able support) that is sure to be lapped up by mass as well as class. The use of Indian instruments (`dhol`, `ektara`, `sarangi/bansuri`) and their blending effectively with the catchy rhythm, the strong hook that is present throughout the song , along with nice and effective rap (by the ever reliable Earl D) is very good. We have heard a lot of `Bhangra` based number in the past but this one ranks right up their and has all the potential to hit the charts, what with Lara, Govinda and Ritesh gyrating to its infectious rhythm.

So we all heard and danced to Anu Malik`s ``Bebo`` in KAMBAKKHT ISHQ and now we have his (once upon a time) arch rival Nadeem-Shravan coming up with their ``Bebo``. And for that they have hired the lip services of the hottest singer of Bollywood, Neeraj Shridhar and Anushka Manchandani. The super synthesized background rhythm is super cool and makes the `mukhda` very very hummable. The variable tempo of the song makes it a tad different from the ones we are used to. Anushka`s voice has that attitude required and she delivers as always. Together with Neeraj they form a formidable pair. The use of English and Hindi lyrics are highly entertaining and will be lapped up by the youth who will find it to their liking. The ``Baari barsi khatan gayasi, Khat ke le andi Bebo`` part is hilarious. Hear it to believe it! Picturised on Lara and Ritesh, this song will definitely be a treat to watch on screen.
As if to keep up the good tempo started with ``Bebo``, Pritam`s lucky charm Neeraj Shridhar is back once again, this time for NS, with another highly rhythmic number, ``Beautiful Woman`` and giving him company is the highly versatile Sowmya Raoh. The number is more in the line of Sajid -Wajid`s dance tracks from David-Govinda`s last super hit outing PARTNER and we are sure that this has been done intentionally to carry the flavour and the background innuendoes relate back to ``Kisi Disco Mein Jayein`` (BADE MIYAN CHHOTE MIYAN). Despite this song being a `khichdi` of quite a few tunes this `khichdi` is spicy and lick smacking. Reason being Neeraj and Sowmya, whose singing deserves salute, specially Sowmya, who sings with verve and energy.
NS go the A.R. Rahman (PAATHSHALA) way in the title track ``Do Knot Disturb`` and is a nice, youthful number, that has a good mix of melody, rap and singing in a conversational mode. The talented Karthik gets a nod here and he is superb. Anushka`s anglesized accent is a bit too accentuated here. The chorus is nice and helps spread the feel good/comic flavour of the movie. Lyrics are unique and carefree mood of the youth who do not wish to be disturbed is nicely put on paper. Once again is this is a slightly `hat ke` propositioning, `ched-chaad` number that has a philosophical touch to it as well.
On the whole, the audio album of DO KNOT DISTURB is certainly worth a buy. NS have really reinvented themselves and have come of age. Their songs (in most cases) do not appear outdated as is the case with most composers who come out of a long hibernation. Its definitely a good comeback for the composers, although they are still not in full form as they have mostly catered to the requirement and mood of the Vashu-David team`s film rather than their going by their own instinct. Music director Shravan says, `` DO KNOT DISTURB music has something for everybody. The six songs encapsulate different moods and as always, have a variety of melodies.`` Well to some extent you are right Shravan. Our pick - ``Bebo``, ``Mere Naal`` and ``Beautiful Woman``.
Looks like Bollywood would never get bored of making comedy flicks based on the institution of marriage? On top of that, these days, the presence of apna Chi Chi (Govinda) in such flicks is becoming more and more predictable? Somehow or the other, this ace actor always bags an important role in such movies. So, whether it was the box office average movie ‘Life Partner’ or the promising upcoming flick ‘Do Knot Disturb’, you are sure to get a taste of Govinda's expertise over comedy.
Directed by the King of Comedies David Dhawan, ‘Do Knot Disturb’ has been produced by Vashu Bhagnani. The movie stars Bollywood's Who's Who of comedy, such as Rajpal Yadav, Ritesh Deshmukh, Ranvir Shorey, Himani Shivpuri, Rituparna Sengupta and Manoj Pahwa. Add to this, the enigmatic looks and the charming performance of the leading ladies, Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta. The music of the film has been given by the talented duo Nadeem-Shravan, while the lyrics have been written by Sameer.
Coming to the plot of the movie, ‘Do Knot Disturb’ runs around the 'knotty' affair of a rich businessman (Govinda), who resorts to all sorts of measures to hide his extra marital affair with a supermodel (Lara Dutta). His wife (Sushmita Sen) is a sophisticated and sexy lady, who is extremely generous and caring. However, the twist in the ah-so-blissful life of the couple is that the wife is more successful than her husband. While she is the proud owner of a successful company, the lavish house and everything else that money can buy, her husband is the one who lives on his wife's money and moves to her beats.
Frustrated and suffocated by his state-of-affairs, Govinda resorts to an affair with a supermodel - his only way out. However, his wife gets suspicious of his moves. On the other hand, the hot and sultry supermodel mistress is too naïve to judge that her lover would not leave his wife to marry her. Coming back to the life of the couple, to get rid of the qualms, the husband bribes a waiter (Ritesh Deshmukh) and asks him to pretend to be the model's boyfriend. The waiter, then again, has a story of his own. He is in desperate need of money, for the treatment of his sick mother (reminds you of the 1970’s Hindi movies, doesn’t it!).
Allured by the money offered by the rich businessman, the waiter pretends to be the boyfriend of the mistress, so as to throw away the mistrust of the businessman's wife. However, in comes the twist, when Sohail Khan, playing the role of the ex-boyfriend of Govinda’s mistress (mainly dumped for the married man), comes to the scene. Though Sohail is genuinely in love with her, he does not have a control over his anger. Add to the already 'knotted' plot, a private detective (Ranvir Shorey), hired by the rich lady to keep an eye on the moves of her husband.
