Viswanathan, who had earlier directed Out of Syllabus, tries comedy in Doctor Patient, produced by Ramprasad under the banner of A.R.Films.
The story of Doctor Patient, as the title itself suggests, is set against a hospital, a mental hospital to be exact. It's in this hospital that young Rueben Isaac comes to work as a doctor, after completing his education abroad. Rueben Isaac is brimming with new thoughts and ideas, which he implements in the hospital. His way of treatment is different and unconventional. He shows love and care towards the mentally afflicted patients and gives them much more freedom than they used to get.
Rakhi Devdas, who had studied Hospital Management in the U.S and who is the Managing Director of the hospital, is very strict. She is opposed to the ways of Rueben Isaac, as a result of which clashes happen between the two. Rakhi even wonders whether Rueben is mad himself. It's in this situation that another psychiatrist comes in, and then the story takes a funny turn. While Jayasurya plays Rueben Isaac, Mukesh is the new psychiatrist. Radha Varma, who had debuted in Mollywood with Crazy Gopalan, becomes Rakhi Devdas.
