Kabaddi movie is based on the game Kabaddi, in which Praveen lead a team for national level and priyanka lead the state level team. A ‘Desi’ game ‘Kabaddi’ is surrounded by a love story. It tells that Kabaddi is Kannadadashte Anivarya. The first full length film on a native game ‘Kabaddi’ in Kannada has set some standards. Firstly the narration is pretty good. Secondly the debut director interspersed the love and game to win his game in life. ‘Kabaddi’ a very popular game in Karnataka that has national prominence today is utilized effectively. The presence of Arjuna Award winner for ‘Kabaddi’ in the national level a native of Karnataka BC Ramesh gives extra edge to the cinema. The dialogues of Uttar Kannada and Mandya are a real treat to hear.

Set in the backdrop of a village the film revolves around ‘Kabaddi’ game and ‘Love’ aspect between Praveen and Priya that faces lot of strictures. A coolie working in rice mill Praveen not educated enough is spotted by Kabaddi coach Beeresh (Kishore). He is given essential training. Praveen is sent to village chieftain house to learn English language from Priya. In the process of learning English Praveen and Priya fall in love that is not liked in the house of Priya. The love affair becomes very strong and all forces are used to keep Praveen away from the village. Priya objects insult to Praveen in the house but it becomes inevitable for Praveen to leave the village. After three years Praveen is back in his village for the upkeep of the prestige of his village. For the Mandya Blues team he is the key player but Praveen faces another problem. His friends are rounded off by police on a murder charge. Rs.5 lakh is need as security bond that is served a gambler because he loves to gamble in the game of ‘Kabaddi’. The play this time in the national level is in the absence of coach Beeresh. Praveen win the game and also the love. Thanks to the final scoring made by BC Ramesh the national player in ‘Kabbaddi’.

Praveen in his first attempt is very natural. Since he is also state level Kabaddi player the role has been diligently handled. Priyana bit fat but has done a very well in debut. She has great future ahead. The dubbing artist to Priyanka role gives full life to the role. Kishore is superb again. Avinash shines in a small presence.

The great master of Kannada cinema in music Hamsalekha has given a musical treat. Three songs are foot tapping. Cinematography Ananth Urs is equally good.

This is worth watching.
Debutant director Narendra Babu's "Kabaddi" is certainly a classic film that is made entirely on the most popular game of the state. The thrills and frills of the game are amply reflected in the film, which also focuses on the emotional undercurrents between the players, the coach and the administrators of the game.

Babu emphasises on authenticity, but at the same time stresses on the cinematic visual requirements. He has been ably assisted by a team of five cinematographers and veteran music director Hamsalekha - all of them have done exceptional work.

Babu has written the dialogues with Hoo Pattanashetty and they are sure to be a hit with the audiences.

"Kabaddi" is essentially a love story which has the sport as its backdrop. Babu has done well in realistically portraying the aspirations, frustrations, high and lows of the Kabaddi players and their coach.

Though he has selected many new artistes for the film, he has been able to extract good performances from them. The more experienced actors have portrayed their roles perfectly. The desi spirit of the game is seen throughout the film.

The film revolves around the relationship between a Kabaddi player Praveen and his coach on the one side and his love affair with Priyanka on the other.

The coach does not like politics to interfere in the selection of the players or in his style of work. His ambition is to create a well-knit national winning team, but he faces many hurdles.

Meanwhile, Praveen's love life also runs into problems along with his sporting career as he has to miss the nationals on account of an injury. So he faces a big challenge to win the game and also his lover back.

The film is marked by fine performances from actors like Kishor, who really lives his character. Dharma and Avinash have excelled in their respective roles. Newcomers Naveen and Priyanka Gowda, who are real Kabaddi players, have shown they can act well too.

Hamsalekha's music is a treat. Apart from the soulful songs, he has given a classic background score for the film. "Tholtode Thattu", "Muththe Muththe" and "Jhallantha" are good compositions.

The art director has done a splendid job in creating the right ambience for the film.

Watch "Kabaddi" as it reflects the desi sporting spirit and the rich folk ethos of Karnataka. It may well be the film to revive the fortunes of the Kannada film industry.Kabbaddi revolves around Praveen, a Kabaddi player trained by a dedicated coach hailing from Uttara Karnataka region. The coach does not want politics to play any part in the team selection. Praveen's love affair with Priyanka runs in the same track as his love for the game. His love affair gets into problems because of his overbearing interest in the game. Unfortunately for him, he misses the Kabaddi Nationals because of injury. The mother of all battle starts in the climax when he has to win the game and also his lover.
