LOVE AT FIRST HICCUP is a charming, innocent, and intelligent romantic comedy about the freshman Victor who has contracted a case of Anya-itis (acute and incurable love-passion for high school senior Anya). And why shouldn't he? She is beautiful and popular. Rich but incredibly sweet with a rare innocence. In other words: Way out of Victor's league. Unfortunately Anya also dates a rich guy, Peter, who drives a fancy lotus and has a stuffed Gucci wallet. However chance meetings riddled with awkward hiccups soon makes sparks fly between Anya and Victor. Maybe Victor's shy and goofy charm can beat out Peters arrogance?
TrustNordisk will handle international distribution of Love at First Hiccup, the US remake of Danish box-office franchise success, Anya & Victor.
Danish sales agency, TrustNordisk, will handle international distribution of Love at First Hiccup, an American $2.4 million re-make of Danish romantic comedy Anya & Victor.
'A world in crisis needs a strong, but easygoing story about love. It was a smash hit in Denmark, and I am sure it will perform internationally as well - considering the dream team working on the project,' said TrustNordisk CEO, Rikke Ennis.
The film is currently shooting in Los Angeles under the direction of Barbara Rothenberg. Danish producer Regner Grasten, who backed the original film has set up the film for Emmy Award-winning Bob Engelman (The Mask, Blade, Mortal Kombat) to produce.
Grasten, with 32 features to his credit, will executive produce. He chose first-timer Rothenberg to direct because of her writing and her shorts; 'she will also add an edge and a hipness to the original story which will be perfect for American audiences,' Engelman added.
The high-school love story between freshman Victor and senior student Anya, who is also dating Peter, stars Devon Werkheiser and Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween, American Crime, Love Ranch). The cast also includes Ray Wise and James Eckhouse. Cinematographer Steven Bernstein and editor Larry Bock are among the crew.
The original sold set up a franchise that has sold over two million tickets in a country with a 5 million population. In Denmark the series' fifth instalment, Anya & Victor - In Sickness and Health, is closing in on 250,000 admissions after its September 12 release. It has made household names of lead actors Sofie Lassen-Kahlke and Robert Hansen
.Victor is a virgin freshmen, pining for Anya a school senior. It escalates to the point were he suffers from Anya-itis (acute and incurable love-passion), so bad it constitutes itself in very embarrassing hiccups - add two friends a bit too eager for Victor to try "it", an over-the-top-annoying and prying baby brother, not to mention Anya's boyfriend Peter -too handsome and too rich to compete with. What is a poor goofy-looking guy to do?
Anja is a beautiful and very well proportioned high school senior ... and still a virgin. She insists that she wants her first time to be with a guy, who knows what it's about. Her rich (and arrogant,...( read more read more... ) pretentious and obnoxious) boyfriend Peter serves the purpose, and he's more than willing. In fact, he's pushing forward as much as he can, but Victor, a freshman who has a serious crush on Anja, has other plans. Her first time should definitely not be with this buffoon, and he's ready to take it VERY far!
