Amazing Tales: Three Guns Chinese Movie Synopsis:

An adaptation of the 1984 Hollywood film by brothers Joel & Ethan Coen titled "Blood Simple," the story is about a restaurant owner played by Dahong Ni, who after learning that his wife (Ni Yan) slept with the waiter (Xiao Shen-yang), hires a corrupt patrol officer (Honglei Sun) to kill his wife and her lover. But the plan didn’t run smoothly as he was stuck to some sticky situations and double crosses.

If I didn’t know that Zhang Yimou’s (Hero) upcoming film The First Gun (formerly Amazing Tales: Three Guns) was a remake of/re-imaging of/in-anyway-connected-to the Coen Brothers classic, debut film Blood Simple., then I never would have guessed it from the Chinese trailer that just went online. Now I don’t speak Chinese (or Mandarin or whatever dialect or language they’re speaking in the trailer) but none of the images clue me in to theplot of a cuckold who hires a hitman to murder his adulterous wife and her lover.

It’s not the setting. I just can’t see the plot. I guess maybe the guy in black with the bow and arrow and a cannon is the hitman? Clearly, Yimou has made some radical changes, but when you see this trailer, I doubt you’ll think, “Huh. This kind of reminds me of Blood Simple.”
Set at a noodle shop in the middle of the desert in Gansu Province, Ni Dahong plays a stingy tavern owner who hires Sun Honglei's character to kill his wife (Yan) and the waiter she slept with (Xiao Shenyang).
Amazing Tales: Three Guns (aka San qiang pai an jing qi) is directed by prolific Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, who created the 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony and directed Jet Li's Hero and House of Flying Daggers previously. The screenplay was co-written by Jianquan Shi and Jing Shang and is a remake of the Coen Brothers' very first film Blood Simple.
