14 Blades Chinese Movie Synopsis :
During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Imperial Guards, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans. Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Imperial Guards were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing and the last blade reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Imperial Guards devoted their lives to the service of the Emperor alone. When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch Jia, the best of the Imperial Guards, Qinglong (Yen) and Xuanwu, are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor.
However unbeknownst to Qinglong, the Imperial Guards have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Qinglong is betrayed by Xuanwu. Now as the most wanted man in the land, Qinglong must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power.
In 14 BLADES, Yen is part of an elite team of Imperial Guards, who grows weary of killing and politics so he resigns. Yet he knows too much about their organization to simply walk away and becomes a target of his former comrades who are now under the command of scheming court officials.
Other cast members feature a mix of new and veteran entertainers. Sadly, all of the young stars featured are idols rather than dedicated martial artists. Wu Chun is a member of Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit and has starred in several TV series. Qi Yuwu is a former Star Search China winner from Singapore who previously starred in Lee’s TV series MASTER SWORDSMAN LU XIAO FENG (2001).
Now when it comes to the veterans, Lee picked some of the best. Legendary action director and martial arts actor Sammo Hung appears, along with one of the best-trained stars to ever headline Shaw Brothers movies, the great Chen Kuan-tai (THE BOXER FROM SHANTUNG). There is also mainland wushu champion Xu Xiang-dong, who caught my eye after tangling with Yuen Biao in the excellent TV series WING CHUN. Other veteran actors appearing include Wu Ma, Damian Lau and Law Kar-ying.tags:
