Mlada Boleslav is for me the biggest dissapointment of this season, as I quite expected teams like Slavia or Liberec to be far from past form, but recent misery of Boleslav is a surprise indeed.
At the beginning of season I thought their team to have one of the best players in the league, they brought in experienced Rajnoch, Kulic and Pecka and along with talented youngsters like Chramosta or Fabian, they were supposed to fight for the top of the table. Also taking on respected coach Uhrin seemed to be a large step to glory. But after bad autumn things went a bit different.Uhrin got sacked and returned to Romania, where he gets much bigger credit than at home, Rajnoch departed to Turkey and Pecka turned out to be totally out of shape. Also the youngsters are improving too slowly, so only Kulic fulfils the expectations being the league top scorer, but a man alone cant deliver results. Calling off coach Uhrin was a big mistake in my eyes, followed by another one, bringing Stanner on the bench, who is the least experienced coach in the whole league (only 13 first league appearances). No wonder they’ve lost 3 out of 4 spring matches, winning only at Olomouc last week, just at the peak time of Olomouc bribing scandal.
Plzen is a lot different story, they have similar quality in their squad as Boleslav, but they are in way better current form. Coach Vrba needed some time to explain his offensive minded approach properly to the players, but it seems that the patience is paying off. They grabbed 13 points in the spring so far, out of 18 possible. Therefore they joined the top group and are just 4 points behind the first place. They arent saying thet go for the title to be modest, but at least european competitions are on their minds for sure. In their last 3 matches they scored 9 goals and received 2. Boleslav coach Stanner said that their defence will focus mainly on Plzen playmaker Horvath, but I dont think this will be enough, cause Plzen have many more dangerous players upfront like Petrzela, Rajtoral or Kolar, and Horvath is experienced enough to give them space if he sees that he is being chased by defence.
Half a year ago I would say that Boleslav with good squad and with home advantage is a clear favourite for this match, but as it is today and these two sides have a lot different current form, I would be very surprised by Boleslav once again if they managed to get good result from this game. As the odds for Plzen are generous enough, I’ll go for Plzen DNB with big stake and no butterflies in my stomach
