'PAATHSHAALA' Hindi MOVIE STORY:
Teaching is a noble profession.
But is it really true in these day of commercialization and consumerism? Every day, we read in the newspapers about students being bogged down with study pressures, parents burdened with fees hikes, teachers punishing students inhumanly, some students even dying in such cases or some committing suicide...what state of affairs we have brought our education system to?
The story starts with the joining of a new English teacher Rahul Prakash Udyavar (Shahid Kapoor) at the Saraswati Vidya Mandir School, situated in the outskirts of Mumbai. Though he creates instant rapport with students and teachers alike, he realizes that there is something amiss in this school.
Slowly his doubts come true as the manager of the school Sharma (Saurabh Shukla) makes many monetary obligations compulsory on the parents in the name of extracurricular activities. He goes to the extent of punishing the students inhumanly when the new unjustified demands of the school are not fulfilled by the parents.
Day by day the stress level among the students increases many folds leading to the unexpected and grim consequences. A situation becomes so explosive that finally it becomes a national issue.
Paathshala tries to answer many questions related to the sanctity of today's education system. The high morals and basic ethics of the teaching have taken a back seat. Profit and more profit have become the new mantra of the education institutions.
Paathshala is not afraid to tell the truth of wrong doings of the greedy educational institutes on the face, neither it spares them from exposing the use of unethical media activities of the children who are not ready for it.

Amidst the current dismal situation of the Indian education system, Paathshaala could well be an eye opener for educationists & parents as the film depicts the various issues faced by children today.
Starring Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia in pivotal roles, ‘Paathshala’ is a film with a message that tries to answer several questions related to the sanctity of today’s education system. It sheds light on the shortcomings and wrong doings in today’s schools where the high morals and basic ethics associated with the teaching profession seem to have taken a back seat. The film attempts to challenge several harmful notions that threaten our children’s future and thus our society. Paathshaala also stars popular child artists Swini Khara, Avika Gor, Ali Haji & Dwij Narendra Yadav. In an innovative promotional move by the producers, major multiplexes across India will have attractive, colourful benches placed along with the film’s standees to attract audience attention.
Presented by Eros International, ‘Paathshaala’ is directed by Milind Ukey & produced by Shaira Khan (Paperdoll Entertainment). The film’s story and screenplay are by Ahmed Khan and music by Hanif Shaikh.

Meanwhile, Ahmed has erected a massive set of a school at Film City. In fact, the set houses class rooms, dormitories, principal’s cabin, staff rooms, 6/7 huge corridors, basket ball court, garden, assembly hall, music room and canteen. Shooting of the film commenced from 27th January 2009. Hanif, is scoring the music of the film. Adlabs is backing the project.
