Death at a Funeral (2010) Story:

Aaron (Chris Rock) is a well-mannered and hard working young man, married to Michelle (Regina Hall), and still living at his father's home. When his father dies, it is up to Aaron, the oldest son, to organize the funeral and give the eulogy. The funeral takes place in his father's home and Aaron tries to put on an appropriate expression on his face to welcome his relatives, including his famous writer brother Ryan (Martin Lawrence), and his father's friends. But preserving a civil atmosphere will be a hard thing to do, especially, when from the very start, the undertaker makes a horrifying mistake. And Ryan wants to be the celebrity of the event without paying for anything. But those incidents are only minor compared to the information that Aaron and Ryan get from Frank (Peter Dinklage) the mysterious dwarf who is attending the funeral and nobody seems to know.

Death at a Funeral (2010) SYNOPSIS

On the morning of their father''s funeral, the family and friends of the deceased each arrive with his or her own roiling anxieties. The son, Daniel, knows he will have to face his flirty, blow-hard, famous-novelist brother Robert, who''s just flown in from New York--not to mention the promises of a new life he''s made to his wife Jane.

Meanwhile, Daniel''s cousin Martha and her dependable new fiance Simon are desperate to make a good impression on Martha''s uptight father, a plan that literally goes out the window when Simon accidentally ingests a designer drug en route to the service, leaving him prone to uncontrollable bouts of delirium and nudity in front of his potential in-laws.\n\nThen comes the real shocker: a mysterious guest who threatens to unveil an earth-shattering family secret. It is now up to the two brothers to hide the truth from their family and friends, and figure out how to not only bury their dearly beloved, but also the secret he''s been keeping.

Death at a Funeral (2010) REVIEW

With a title like Death at a Funeral, you'd certainly hope this is a comedy, and it is. A dark little comedy with only a pinch of respect left for the deceased. From the very outset when the funeral home delivers the wrong body, you know what to expect from this film. It exploits the formalities and the things people do or don't do at funerals out of confusion, grief or respect.

Throwing into the mix, rivalry of the siblings, politics of the extended family, a one night stand, an old uncle on a wheelchair, a bunch of hallucinogenic drugs and a dark secret of the deceased and you're surely onto a winner, right? Well, sort of.

It has good writing by Dean Craig, the structure and all the components do fit together tightly, there's no complaining there, however it lacks a certain freshness and feels like a path we've walked before. I assume there is little you can do to make fun of a funeral that hasn't been seen & done before.

The main strength of he film is its witty dialogue, followed by its performances. Though primarily it is about the two sons of the deceased, Daniel (Matthew MacFadyen) and celebrity novelist Robert (Rupert Graves), the focus does deviate frequently to the multiple subplots. In line with the mayhem that the film sets out to achieve, this works a charm. All the cast gets ample scope to add their contribution of madness to the pot.

This is also its weakness though, as it feels on the verge of being a bit 'too' much. The mayhem seems too perfect. Everyone is at the right place at the right time to add their witty dialogue or action to chuck in that extra joke. It seems as though they aimed to do to Funerals what Airplane did to films about plane journeys, but unfortunately this is not achieved.

I cant think of that many films that play with the comic aspect around funerals, but Wedding Crashers and Four Weddings and a Funeral spring to mind. There is also the TV series Six Feet Under, which added a further depth by having the dead communicating selectively with the living.

Back to the film, quite predictably, the mayhem eventually boils over and brings us to a climax where the issues that have been brought to our attention are either resolved or set in motion to be resolved. At the risk of sounding repetitive, it all seems quite clinical, adding randomness to this mix and not tying up everything so neatly only would have added to the viewing pleasure.

Possible moral of the story:
If you care, try not dying, you never know what might happen to you after that.

All said and done, though nothing ground-breaking, it is an enjoyable little caper, it does what it says on the tin, it entertains. With multiple laugh out loud cracks seeded into a compost of smirk worthy moments to take away, it's worth a watch if you fancy something short and sweet, to kill a couple of hours.

This is an example of movie-making at its worst. I really am at a loss to know what market these sorts of movies are aimed at. Perhaps a black US audience might find more amusement than a UK audience – although the director is white. I don't know. This IS a black movie with a capital B. There are three token white actors one of which is a token midget. They studiously avoid referring to his lack of height until the end of the movie when it all comes thick and fast but, as with the rest of the movie, unfunny. Chris Rock, arguably the lead, is not an actor of any discernible talent, closely followed by his brother in the movie – that's brother rather than brother – Martin Lawrence. The women and the white actors come off marginally better. A gag about a guy getting crap all over his hand is a toe-curlingly unfunny set-up for a totally unamusing running gag. The movie doesn't even end when it should do but has another two or three minutes of 'story wrap-up' scenes which are completely unnecessary. Directed by Neil (The Wicker Man 2006 remake) LaBute one can only wonder what dirt he holds on Hollywood execs that they continue to bankroll his worthless projects. If anything, perhaps it is good to see something like this occasionally just to remind oneself what good cinema is all about.

Marmaduke (2010) Story:

For Phill and Debbie Winslow, moving their family from Kansas to the O.C. is a big deal. However, this move also means a whole new way of life for their enormous Great Dane, Marmaduke. It's chaos at home and awkward at work as the Winslow struggle to control their mischievous canine.

Marmaduke (2010) SYNOPSIS

Marmaduke is a live-action film adaptation of Brad Anderson's comic strip of the same name. A suburban family moves to a new neighborhood with their large yet lovable Great Dane, who has a tendency to wreak havoc in his own oblivious way.

Marmaduke (2010) REVIEW

Marmadukeeeeeeeeee!" - Uh-oh, here comes trouble.

With a comic strip that wasn't even that funny to begin with, this feature film will make it even more unappealing. The story surrounding a clumsy Great Dane who seems to wreck havoc wherever he goes, just doesn't cut it as good entertainment. Moreover, the CGI effects on these animals makes you wish of the days where "Homeward Bound" or "Lassie" was still around. If you had paid attention to the trailer, you would have noticed the awful image of a group of dogs dancing in a park - a pain to watch.

What happened to the days when animals were on a real adventure and didn't have to have any silly facial expressions? In the film, Marmaduke (Owen Wilson) and his suburban family moves to Orange County, California and is having a tad bit of trouble fitting in. Soon, Phil Winslow (Lee Pace) takes Marmaduke to the dog park, his apparent "workplace" as he takes on a marketing chief position for a California-based organic pet food company.

While at the park, Marmaduke meets a couple of Mutts, Mazie (Emma Stone) the kind-hearted Queensland Heller mix, Raisin (Steve Coogan) the intellectual Dachshund mix, and Giuseppe (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) the timid Chinese Crested mix, who shows him around. Essentially, the park serves as a high school for dogs, feeding off the idea whereby Marmaduke, being this overgrown, awkward teenager is trying to fit in at his new "school". Audiences will be introduced to the jocks, cheerleader, drama geeks, shroom addicts, and juvenile delinquents. Later on, we meet The Pedigrees which include Bosco (Kiefer Sutherland), the group's "alpha male" and reigning surf champion; Bosco's girlfriend, the elegant Collie Jezebel (Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas), whom Marmaduke is crushing on; and Bosco's shifty cohorts, the mini-Doberman Pinschers, Lightning and Thunder (Marlon Wayans and Damon Wayans, Jr.). Inevitably, Marmaduke attempts to join the hard-to-crack Pedigree clique and is helped by his "step-brother" Carlos (George Lopez), a Russian Blue Cat. All the animals had their own distinct characteristics and that was a plus point for this movie.

However, as fun as it sounds in the beginning, the story just doesn't seem to be funny enough to tickle ones funny bone. Instead, laughs are practically nonexistent. Although it keeps to its naughty, misbehaved Great Dane attributes as in the comics, the story is hardly charming and the ending is unexpectedly over the top for this average movie.

The human actors were terribly played out especially Judy Greer who plays housewife Debbie Winslow, who is never irked at the annoying things Marmaduke does. Meanwhile, while the voice actors were fine. Overall, "Marmaduke" fails on entertainment value and is in need of a better script.

Splice (2010) Story:

Splice is a 2010 science fiction film directed by Vincenzo Natali and starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, who portray two young scientists and lovers who begin involving human DNA in their splicing of animal genes

Splice (2010) SYNOPSIS

Two young scientists (Brody and Polley) achieve fame by splicing human DNA with the DNA of different animals to create a new creature. In the process they ignore their society’s ethical and legal boundaries. The scientists name their creature “Dren”, which is initially a deformed female infant, however it rapidly develops into a beautiful but deadly winged human-chimera.

Splice (2010) REVIEW

usually dig on Vincenzo Natali’s work (although I did eject Cypher halfway through – was hating on it big time – life’s too short) so it was with some anticipation that I attended a screening of the dude’s newest flick SPLICE. I came out of it alive and well, too bad I was hoping to stroll on out a destroyed man.

Although derivative of a bunch of other films (Species in particular comes to mind), SPLICE was engaging enough to deliver a compelling buck and half of horror/sci fi schlock. The pacing was effortless, it had lots of good ideas, was sexually deviant (old fashion rape and quasi incest – yeehaw) and the themes brought up were interesting.

A last-minute addition to this year's festival, Vincenzo Natali's Splice is a terrific sci-fi summer treat that somehow manages to combine a very twisted, line-crossing sensibility with a genuine kind of sweetness. It has a most peculiar, appealing tone, which makes even the most familiar moments seem fresh. Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley star as Clive and Elsa, a pair of genetic scientists -- and lovers -- who have created some new life forms that may also provide medicine for animals. When bureaucrats threaten to take over their operation, they decide to work on a human-based creature, and "Dren" is born. She grows very quickly and causes no end of complications and surprises, made more complicated by the fact that Clive and Elsa must keep her hidden. (They have crossed some serious ethical boundaries.) Natali -- who directed the 1997 cult film Cube -- rarely steps wrong here, with outstanding achievements in everything from set design to sound design. The striking Delphine Chanéac plays Dren as an adult. In English. (May 4)

Fast, clean, and efficient, he always got the job done, and enjoyed the many perks that came with traveling the globe in search of his targets. But somewhere amidst all of the fast cars and exotic women, Spencer fell in love with Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl), a carefree computer expert on the mend from a relationship gone sour. Flash forward three years, when Spencer and Jen are happily married and living the domestic dream. On the heels of Spencer's 30th birthday,

he and his happy wife discover that their life of bliss could come to a violent end at any second -- someone has put a multi-million-dollar contract on Spencer's life, and the hired killers who have been tracking him could be anyone from the checkout girl to the neighborhood curmudgeon. Killers (2010) SYNOPSIS

Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) is just your average, undercover, government-hired super-assassin accustomed to a life of exotic European locales, flashy sports cars and even flashier women. But when he meets Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl), a beautiful, fun-loving computer tech recovering from a bad break-up, he finds true love... and happily trades international intrigue for domestic bliss.
Trying to recover from a sudden break-up, Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) believes she’ll never fall in love again. But when she reluctantly joins her parents on a trip to the French Riviera, Jen happens to meet the man of her dreams, the dashing, handsome Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher). Three years later, her seemingly impossible wish has come true: she and Spencer are newlyweds living the ideal suburban life – that is, until the morning after Spencer’s 30th birthday when bullets start flying. Literally.

It turns out Spencer never bothered to tell Jen he’s also an international super-spy, and now Jen's perfect world has been turned upside down. Faced with the fact that her husband is a hit man, Jen is determined to discover what other secrets Spencer might be keeping – all the while trying to dodge bullets, keep up neighborly appearances, manage the in-laws…and work out some major trust issues.

Killers (2010) REVIEW

Well, uh, what can I say? The new Ashton Kutcher/Katherine Heigl action-comedy “Killers” is like “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” minus all that chemistry and sex appeal and uh, well, Brangelina, I guess. Not saying there’s no chance this thing could be good, but it’s doubtful it can rise above being mildly amusing. Possibly. Anyways, here’s the first trailer for “Killers” (via Yahoo), previously known as “Five Killers”. I don’t know why they changed the title, and then changed it to something so generic. The least they could do was be clever about it, but I suppose clever isn’t something the film is going for.

Get Him to the Greek (2010) REVIEW

I was lucky enough to see this movie tonight as an advanced screening at my school.

It is the funniest movie of the year so far and I think it will be a sleeper hit like The Hangover was last year. I loved Russel Brand's character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but I was bit hesitant to see an entire movie based around the character. If you feel the same way as I did, stop! This was an excellent spin off with a great cast. If you love movies like Superbad and The Hangover, you will not be disappointed with this. Although, don't go in expecting another Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which is more of a romantic comedy. This is just 108 minutes (approx) of pure fun and a lot of crude humor.

Russel Brand, Jonah Hill, and Diddy are flat out hilarious. I'll go far as to say that Diddy's character Sergio is to this movie as Russell Brand's Aldous Snow was to Forgetting Sarah Marshall. There are a lot of hilarious lines throughout the movie and a couple of awesome cameos.

I haven't laughed as much as I did tonight since I first saw The Hangover last year. If you love comedies, then don't miss this! I highly recommend it.

Ondine (2010) Story:

ONDINE is the story of Syracuse, a simple fisherman who catches a beautiful and mysterious woman in his trawler's nets. The woman seems to be dead, but then she comes alive before Syracuse's eyes and he thinks he may be seeing things. However, with the help of his ailing, yet irrepressible daughter, Annie, he comes to believe that the fantastical might be possible and that the woman (Ondine) might be a myth come true. Ondine and Syracuse fall passionately in love, but just as we think the fairytale might go on forever, the real world intercedes. Then, after a terrible car crash and the return of a dark and violent figure from Ondine's past, hope eventually prevails and a new beginning is presented to Syracuse, Ondine and Annie

Ondine (2010) SYNOPSIS

A man makes a startling discovery that may or may not be magical in this drama from writer and director Neil Jordan. Syracuse (Colin Farrell) is a fisherman who lives in a small town on the Southern coast of Ireland. Syracuse is an alcoholic, and though he's been sober for two years, most of his neighbors still remember him as a embarrassing drunk, while his ex-wife now lives with another man. Syracuse tries to scratch out a living from the ocean and help support his young daughter Annie (Alison Barry), who suffers from a serious kidney ailment, but good luck is rarely with him until one day, when he pulls up his nets and finds what appears to be a woman caught in them. To Syracuse's surprise, the woman is alive,

and he brings her to shore. The woman is a mysterious and secretive type who doesn't want to tell Syracuse anything about herself or be seen by anyone; Annie proposes that she's a selkie, a mythic creature of the sea that can take human form when it falls in love with the right person. Syracuse almost believes that Annie is right, especially after good luck and good fishing begins coming his way after discovering her, but unfortunately the woman Syracuse has named Ondine (Alicja Bachleda) has certain concerns more pressing than the good fortune of her benefactor. Ondine was an official selection at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

Ondine (2010) REVIEW

Green is the new black. Unless you stay in bed all day, you can't fail to see at least one message that encourages you to put bottles in the left-hand bin and paper and cardboard in the right. One bathroom has a poster, "Don't flush unless it's number two." A few months ago a doc*mentary movie focused on a man who was determined to be so green that he consumed goods for a year with only a single plastic bag to dispose of.

There is also the literal color: mention Ireland and the first word that may come to mind is "green." It's the Emerald Isle whose national hue is determined by its torrential rain. In Neil Jordan's "Ondine," ace cinematographer Christopher Doyle goes wholly overboard by showing us a rural area on Ireland's west coast that's not only lush with vegetation but is now overlaid with a off-putting chartreuse look on the lenses of his cameras. In fact there is only one scene in the movie, one that involves a pair of helicopters chasing bandits, that dispenses with the grainy green look on the lens filters. What's more, the celluloid is on the dark side, caused partly by the ever-present mist and partially by technical choices.

Maybe the tech flaws could be forgiven if the story would capture our imagination, what with the tone of magic realism and the way that writer-director wants to keep us guessing about the identity of the title character. However, the action is slow, the change in the final third that casts the village into a crime scene c*m spectacular auto accident, is no help either.

Ondine (Alicja Bachleda) is the name of a woman who is literally fished out of the water by Syracuse (Colin Farrell), one who gives the fisherman and his 11-year-odl daughter Annie (Alison Barry) the impression that she is a selkie, which is part seal and part human but who is disguising the anything that might conjure up thoughts of anything but a raving beauty. After being pulled out of the water, she appears indifferent to hostile, which is presumably what a fish might be in such a condition, and refuses to be seen anyone in the town. Whether she is a selkie or a human is not important. Her role is serve the plot as a catalyst for the redemption of a lonely, formerly alcoholic fisherman, divorced from his wife, Maura (Derva Kirwan), who has been granted custody of their daughter. Particularly poignant is that young Annie is confined to a wheelchair, bogged down by a failing kidney that requires her to have dialysis several times a week in a mobile van. Annie is also wise beyond her years, speaks like an adult, and tends to become irritating with her cutesy bon mots. When Syracuse is in a particularly eager need for redemption, he visits the local priest (Stephen Rea) in the confession booth, where he nonetheless admits that the man of the cloth is not likely to see his potential parishioner at Mass, not any time soon.

Neil Jordan's dialogue is nothing to write home about and is sometimes muffled, though Colin Farrell's heavily accented prose is not difficult to understand. The most romantic thing one can say about the movie is that in real life, Colin Farrell met Alicja Bachleda on the set of "Ondine." Bachleda is a Polish actress born in Tampico, Mexico who studied for the trade in Krakow, who speaks Spanish, Polish and English. She and Farrell became partners and last October were blessed with a son.

Daybreakers Story :
Watch this if you liked: “Near Dark”, “Sin City”, “Underworld” Vampire movies seem to share the immortality of their subject matter - they simply don't die or go away. The novel thing about "Daybreakers" from the Australian Spierig twins ("Undead", 2003) is a 2019 premise where the undead grossly outnumber the living and we can see vampires in business suits, jeans and sports attire going about their daily lives, while human beings are farmed for blood in a futuristic "Matrix"-like environment to help sustain the macabre majority. This post-apocalyptic scenario is cinematically delicious, if only to see a consumer lifestyle based on such a social arrangement. The story is centred on a blood doctor (a resurgent Ethan Hawke) who is trying to find a more satisfactory answer to a diminishing blood bank by formulating a usable replacement in his labs, financed by an evil corporation led by a supplier CEO (Sam Neill) who ironically sells blood through government endorsements. Thrown into the mix are a group of non-compliant human refugees led by a beautiful girl (Claudia Karvan) and also the rumoured revelation of a vampire (Willem Dafoe) who has turned human again via an unlikely mystery procedure. The key to the saving the world lies in this peculiar convert. "Daybreakers" isn't "Twilight" but it does veer towards drama instead of action. However, the instances where action does come into play, they come in strong! It's an uneven story at best, punctuated by "Sin City" noir moments and yet culminating in a rather sci-fi climax that might not be completely satisfying to most audiences. A solid cast keeps the story suspenseful and the movie as a whole does have its moments. It's a useful addition to the tired genre, although there's nothing groundbreaking here like the Russian "Nightwatch" movies. It's not really a scary movie but a half-decent attempt at sociological sci-fi. Daybreakers English Movie SYNOPSIS In the year 2017, a plague has transformed almost every human on earth into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the dominant plots for their survival to continue their existence. Meanwhile, a researcher (Hawke) works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save the human race..

Agora (2010)  Story:
The film centers around the astronomer-philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria (Weisz) and several men whom she knows such as her slave, Davus (Minghella), and her pupils, Orestes (Oscar Isaac) and Synesius (Rupert Evans), all of whom become major players in the changing political social landscape.[6]  The film begins with Alexandria under Roman  pagan  rule. Hypatia, daughter of a scholar, teaches at the Platonic  school, where many future leaders are educated. She is wooed by her student Orestes, while her slave Davus keeps his love for her secret. Meanwhile, social unrest begins challenging the Roman rule of the city as pagans and Christians come into conflict. The pagans, including Orestes and Hypatia's father, ambush the Christians to quash their rising influence, but find themselves unexpectedly outnumbered. Hypatia's father is gravely injured and Hypatia and the pagans take refuge in the Library of Alexandria. The Christian siege of the library ends when an envoy of the Roman Emperor declares that the Christians shall be allowed to enter the library. Hypatia and the pagans flee, grabbing what scrolls and documents they can, before the Christians overtake the library and destroy its contents. Davus, torn by his love for his mistress and the possibility of gaining his freedom by joining the rising tide of Christianity, chooses to join the Christian forces.

The film continues several years later: Orestes (now converted to Christianity) is prefect of Alexandria. Hypatia continues to investigate the motions of the heavenly bodies, though she is forbidden from teaching at the school. The Christians and the Jews come into conflict, committing violent acts against each other, with the Christians ultimately wresting power from the only other religious group remaining. The leader of the Christians, Cyril (Sami Samir), views Hypatia as having too much influence over Orestes and stages a public ceremony intended to force Orestes to subjugate her. Hypatia's former pupil, Synesius, now the Bishop of Cyrene, comes to her rescue as a religious authority counterweight, but says he cannot help her unless she accepts Christianity. She refuses. Cyril convinces a mob of Christians that Hypatia foments civil disobedience and they vow to kill her. Davus tries to run ahead to warn Hypatia, but she is captured by the mob. Davus secretly suffocates her while the mob gathers stone to stone her with.

It tells the story of Hypatia, a female philosopher in Roman Egypt, who is portrayed by Weisz. With dramatic license, the biopic includes a romantic angle: her slave falls in love with her.  The film was co-financed by Spanish company Sogecable. It was screened Out of Competition at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in May, was released in Spain on 9 October, and is being released country by country throughout late 2009 and early 2010.

Agora (2010)  REVIEW

I watched Agora at its Malta premiere. And I liked it.

I have to declare an interest: two actually. One is that however dispassionate one tries to be about a film that one is connected with even in the remotest of ways, there's still an underlying wish that people like it. The other is that I'm a preaching, pious, practicing atheist and this film tells the story of an atheist saint who lives for her convictions: the religion of questioning anything, and the faith that there are answers to every question and the answers are real and true even we are as yet unable to discover them.

Hypatia is a teacher and philosopher who lives in Alexandria at a time when a major transformation is happening to a Roman Empire well past its prime. Christianity, previously suppressed because of its obsessive destructive monolithic monopoly of any alternative interpretation of truth and for its morbid fascination and dark affinity with suffering and death, is becoming a mainstream faith. But in its battle for the hearts and minds of the Alexandrians, Christianity cannot persuade and reason. Who can outwit, out-speak, out- reason and exceed the persuasive skills of the heathen protectors and renewers of the Platonic and academic tradition? Where persuasion does not work, Christians resort to superstition, threats, witch-hunts, violence and murder. It may not be Christian behaviour, but it works; and as Hypatia herself acknowledges, the Christians have won and reason, knowledge and the pursuit of truth have lost.

At the very opening of the film, and at different pauses for reflection, the director zooms away from the scene and looks at it from high up above. Hitchcock looked down from the height of the clouds, there where the screams and the fires in the village attacked by birds are too far to hear and see. Cameron looked down from the star lit night sky, at the sinking Titanic that from that distance looked like a barely floating piece of flotsam, not the calamity experienced from those inside the ship. Gibson looked down from the point of view of God when he shed a tear that shook the Golgotha.

Amenabar takes a bird's eye view, or a God's eye view if you like, of his own time. These are Google Earth shots that rapidly zoom away and sea earth as a geographical reality bereft of all the details of the cities and people that pollute its surface. From so high up above Africa of 500 AD looks exactly like today's Africa. And so of the Mediterranean and of the Nile Delta.

I don't think this is merely a stylistic nod to the Google Earth age. I think it can also be a visual statement that the secterian violence of Alexandria of 15 centuries ago is identical to Gujarrat, Kabul, Belfast, Sarajevo, Darfur and Rwanda of our time. That from high up above the period costumes, the faded Egyptian statues and the defunct languages and religions cannot be seen. What can be seen is a planet inhabited by humans who find dignity and humanity in their right to hold strong views but who compensate for their inability to persuade others by using coercion and violence.

True, religion poisons everything. True the morality police of the newly Christian Alexandria look remarkably like an earlier day Taliban or latter day Pharisees whom Jesus challenged to be the ones to throw the first stone. The pogroms of the newly Christian Alexandria and the Christ-killing libel of the time is replicated by anti-Semites to this day. Also true that for Christians anywhere the film is a reminder that the worst thing about their convictions is the unjustified belief that their faith is superior to darker faiths that are plagued by integralism, intolerance, militancy and violence.

But this is not a film of a Republican Spaniard who looks for another metaphor for the Spanish Civil War. This is the story of violence whether inspired or justified by religion or not. This could be about sports, about politics, about anything that people feel would justify them in acting in a way that would prevent others from living out their lives.

Was it a good film? Yes, I thought so. If I was to be picky, I'd say that I'm still not convinced about the idea of using inter-titles mid-way through the film to bring the audience up to speed with the change in context before the second Act starts. I'm a bit old fashioned that way and I would have preferred to have all that woven into the dialogue and the images of the film. I felt the film lost momentum at that point, though I am indeed being picky because the rhythm is very quickly regained.

I liked the film because, though a period film, the hero is a woman who never brandishes a knife and who never thrills us with her fighting skills. In that way the story remains honest with itself. As she is accused of witch-craft, Hypatia cracks the Copernican code, unarmed and disarming.

And I liked the film because I'm biased. Because it tells Christians a story they can choose to ignore like the seeds whom the farmer cast carelessly on rock and were quickly eaten by birds. You cannot question what you believe. I mus

Maro Charitra Telugu Movie Review

That seems to be the biggest question which has become a hot topic in the tinsel town. The lean and lanky Varun Sandesh got away with a back to back hit in the start but later on, his movies failed to impress. But now, he will be taking his litmus test with the new movie ‘Maro Charitra’.

The Story : Maro Charitra is an adaptation of K. Balachander-kamal hasan classic movie Maro Charitra (1979). The basic story and screenplay of Maro Charitra are the same, the movie has a US backdrop.
Micky J. Meyer has scored music and Dil Raju is producing this movie.

So the general prediction is that if the film is a hit then super otherwise, Varun will become another Uday Kiran. History has shown that except Ravi Teja no one among the self-reliant heroes has survived this long in the industry and that too with so much of following and success in the market.

For now, the audio of ‘Maro Charitra’ has got a mixed response and many say that it is suffering due to no publicity. For a film coming from the camp of Dil Raju, this comes as a bit of surprise. So whether Varun will create ‘maro charitra’ with his career or will be left with no charitra, only time will tell.
