Perrier's Bounty (2010)Story:
Michael owes money to Dublin's meanest gangster, Darren Perrier. When the debt is called in Brenda, Michael's recently "dumped" and suicidal best friend, accidentally shoots dead one of his goons. To make matters worse Michael's estranged father, Jim, arrives just in time to witness the scene. With a bounty on their heads Michael, Jim and Brenda flee to the mountains.
On the run with his eccentric father, who’s convinced he'll die the next time he sleeps, and an increasingly morose Brenda, Michael is about to lose his mind. But as the net tightens and the helter-skelter chase reaches its climax he is forced to forgive his father and confront his true feelings for Brenda. With every hard man in Dublin on their trail it looks like Michael won't make it through the next 24 hours; however, The Grim Reaper and a gang of savage dogs have a funny way of intervening.
I picked up on a couple of reviews of PERRIER'S BOUNTY in the daily newspapers and thought - that is worth a look over!! Good cast - Brendon Gleeson Liam Cunningham Jim Broadbent Cillian Murphy et al - and a story of the shady underworld inhabiting Dublin......drugs, guns, violence, dog fights and other such delights.
So today I packed myself off to the local multiplex and gladly bought my ticket.
Perrier's Bounty (2010)SYNOPSIS
An ordinary guy gets himself in an extraordinary amount of trouble in this blend of comedy and action from director Ian FitzGibbon. Michael McCrea (Cillian Murphy) is a regular guy who isn't especially good with money, which leads him to borrow some money from Perrier (Brendan Gleeson), a local loan shark and strong-arm man. Unfortunately, Michael isn't able to pay back the money on schedule, and he quickly learns that Perrier is one man you don't want angry; now there's a price on Michael's head and he needs to pay his debt quickly if he wants to live. Michael accepts a proposal from a small time hood to do a quick breaking and entering in exchange for part of the loot, but things go very wrong and somehow the neighbor girl Michael is sweet on, Brenda (Jodie Whitaker), ends up shooting someone. Now Michael is on the run from two sets of crooks, has a dead body to deal with, must find an alibi for Brenda, and has to mend fences with his crusty father (Jim Broadbent) before Dad is willing to help. Perrier's Bounty was an official selection at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

That, at least, is the conclusion one draws from the endless series of comically tinged British crime thrillers that have come down the pike during recent years, of which the mediocre "Perrier's Bounty" is the latest example.
Murphy plays the central role of Michael, a man who has gotten in way over his head in terms of debt to Perrier (Gleeson), Dublin's most ruthless loan shark. Looking to exact payment either in terms of cash or Michael's blood, Perrier sends his henchmen, who also happen to be gay lovers, after him.
Complicating Michael's efforts to evade his pursuers are his father (Broadbent), inexplicably convinced that he's going to die the next time he falls asleep, and a suicidal neighbor (Jodie Whittaker) despondent over a recent break-up.
Although it's fun at times watching the veteran performers go through their increasingly absurd paces with roguish enthusiasm -- Broadbent, in particular, is a hoot -- the film's laborious efforts to blend brutal, hard-edged violence with would-be whimsical humor quickly wear thin.
Director Ian FitzGibbon displays technical dexterity in his handling of the action set pieces and the handsome widescreen lensing of the suitably grungy Dublin locations. But "Perrier's Bounty" ultimately proves a skimpy one, indeed.
