The Black Waters of Echo's Pond English Film Synopsis:
Robert Patrick and Danielle Harris headline this satanic shocker about a group of friends who discover a malevolent board game that unleashes the forces of hell through pent-up emotions. It was supposed to be a relaxing getaway for nine close friends, a carefree trip to a private island far removed from the cares of the real world. Upon arriving at their gorgeous Victorian home retreat, one member of the group discovers a bizarre game hidden beneath the basement stairwell. Before long the group is gathered around the table, eager to learn the rules and have some fun. But this is no ordinary game, because with each roll of the dice the seething anger that everyone struggles to suppress boils over into a diabolical rage of murder and bloodlust.

Movie Reviews::

Black Waters of Echo's Pond, directed by Gabriel Bologna, starts off with a flashback about an archaeological exhibition in Turkey that uncovers ancient plans to make a game based on Greek mythology, specifically the God Pan. The archaeologists decide to build this game on an island where "pandemonium" takes over and they end up killing one another. One archaeologist is left, but before he dies he hides the game where he thinks no one will find it. Flash forward to present day America and we find a group of friends who are going to stay the night on that same island. This group starts to party and literally stumble across Pan's game. At once, they start playing the game and this is when all their insecurities and sexual desires start to surface. The game mostly presents each of the characters with questions that they answer honestly. This starts a chain reaction that starts off as harmless but pretty soon, after the sex scenes, their eyes turn to black and they start turning on one another or as director Gabriel Bologna said "nothing is scarier than watching twins running at you with knives." Meanwhile, the mythical beast Pan starts to show up and is the catalyst for the chaos or "pandemonium" that ensues.
On the surface, this movie just seems to be an adult version of Jumanji with people playing a game and the game coming to life. Underneath the sexual tension (the very sexy Avellan Twins) and gore (several well done death scenes) of this movie is a well thought out plot about how people are very capable of doing great harm to one another, even to their friends, when things like envy and rage start to cloud the mind. There is a supernatural element to this story and that is Pan, but he only brings to the surface the carnal blood lust that is already lurking in all of us.

Left by her husband and barely surviving the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, a Palestinian leaves the country with her adolescent son to start a new life with her sister in small-town Illinois. Once there, daily reality sets in and integration proves to be more difficult that expected, especially since the confused local population sees her as the enemy, somehow connected to Iraq and the attacks of 9/11. This moving tragicomedy was the winner of the FIPRESCI Prize during the Director's Fortnight at Cannes.

Amreeka Hollywood Movie Review :

This story follows a Middle-Eastern woman as she struggles living in an military-occupied West Bank. When she receives notice that she has been chosen in a lottery for a U.S. Green Card, she has to make the decision whether or not to uproot herself and her son for greener pastures. After making the decision to go, leaving her mother and brother behind, she realizes that life in Amreeka (America) is not all that she had dreamed it would be. Facing prejudice everywhere she turns, she makes other hard choices in trying to support her family...the son she brought to America with her and the relatives that she is staying with in the Midwest who are facing prejudice and struggling to make ends meet. In the end, this film reminds the viewer of the importance of family and the sacrifices we make for those we love.
Amreeka (the Arabic word for America) is a humorous and warm-hearted first feature from Cherien Dabis that follows a Palestinian woman, Muna (Nisreen Faour) and her sixteen-year-old son, Fadi (Melkar Muallem) from the checkpoints of the West Bank to the checkmates of racial animosity in a small town in Illinois near Chicago. Set in 2003 at the start of the Iraq War, Muna leaves Bethlehem because she desires a better life for her son and can no longer put up with overbearing Israeli police, the harangues of her elderly mother, and reminders of her philandering ex-husband.
The opening sequence in which Muna is ecstatic about receiving her Green Card in the mail and says tearful goodbyes to her family on her way to America joyously captures the closeness of family and their caring for each other in a lighthearted manner.
Unfortunately in the rest of the film things do not go as well for the young family. They have to deal with numerous incidents of overt and covert racism including bullying at school as they try to adjust to a new home and a new country. Things start off badly when Muna and Fadi are harassed for three hours at the airport by Israeli customs and a tin box filled with cookies and all of their savings are handed over by Fadi to customs officials.

City Island Hollywood movie Review :

Honestly, I'm not a huge Andy Garcia fan. Some of his personal right wing political statements have turned me off and I usually find Andy Garcia (as an actor) playing Andy Garcia.
But in City Island, wow. I guess this is what you would call a command performance. He's extremely believable and lovable as a sort of dim-witted (in a Rocky Balboa sort of way) prison guard who secretly takes acting classes and develops a friendship with a young woman while also adopting a convicted felon who just so happens to be his secret long lost son, while trying to keep all of these life's complications from his tough Bronx wife. The sub-plots involving his daughter being a stripper and his son having a fetish for overweight women are admittedly a little bizarre, but Andy Garcia's performance as the gentle soul just trying to do right in the world keeps this WoodyAllenesque soap opera entertaining as all hell.
I think this is the only Andy Garcia movie that I ever really liked, and I have to admit it even brought a tear to my eye. I don't know if City Island will ever get the credit it deserves, but in my opinion Andy Garcia's performance in City Island is the stuff that Oscars are made of.


Just saw this movie, and I think it's very good. It's started in the middle of some middle-class family, where nothing ever happened. Father has no education, wife is a office worker, and two boring children. But few minutes later I just can't stop. Father somehow became actor, his wife try to cheat on him with his unknown son, and children is no better than parents.
Characters are true, and I almost knew some of them in real life. They fun or sad, good or bad, they motivation is understandable and I wanted them to be happy. And they learned self and each other and them gave ,e good receipt to make my life happier - talk to each another. After checking out Raymond’s blog I dropped him a line telling him about our site and he invited us down for a set visit. So last Friday my photographer John and I drove to City Island to check out the film’s set. We met up with Raymond’s assistant, Amy Basil, who gave us a tour of 90 Horton St in City Island, The Rizzo Family’s home in the movie. Amy explained the house, which sits on the Eastchester Bay, was chosen for its breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline. She also pointed out the changes that had been made to the home for the movie. A shed and deck were added to the backyard, inside, new wallpaper, family photos, and curtains were hung while new furniture was moved in to make this house the Rizzo’s home. The owner was compensated for its use and everything will be put back exactly the way it was before he returns (except for the deck, that may be an added perk).
