review

What happens when the people we count on to hold us together... are barely holding it together themselves? Jonas Pate's "Shrink" is a striking, fast-paced exposé of the "other" Hollywood, featuring folks living outside their comfort zone and the people who put them there. Henry Carter (Kevin Spacey) is a psychiatrist with an A-list clientele, including a once-famous actress (Saffron Burrows), an insecure young writer (Mark Webber), and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent (Dallas Roberts). Henry is not in a good place, however. He has been asked to take his first pro bono case, a troubled teenage girl from a neighborhood far from the Hollywood hills. Considering his present state of mind, is he ready for the real-life troubles of a young woman who loves the world of movies he has become so jaded by? At its core, "Shrink" is a study of control and our endless need for it, even when it grows increasingly impossible to obtain. Writer Thomas Moffett uses classic archetypes in this modern Hollywood tale, but never pushes them over the edge of credibility. Performed by a well-matched cast at the top of their form, the result is both satisfying and exhilarating. Watching "Shrink" makes us feel like voyeurs looking through a window into the lives of people who look great, feel worse, and end up behaving badly.

Unable to cope with a recent personal tragedy, LA's top celebrity shrink turns into a pothead with no concern for his appearance and a creeping sense of his inability to help his patients.

review

If Semitic sitcom star Gertrude Berg had merely portrayed radio and TV’s first baleboste, that would have been enough (Dayenu!). Had Gertrude Berg merely been a female writer/producer in a male-dominated world of early radio and TV, that also would have been enough (Dayenu!). But Gertrude Berg was all these things: a sitcom star, a prolific writer and a strong-willed producer. Documentarian Aviva Kempner (The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg) reclaims Berg’s place in TV history by lovingly and exhaustively itemizing the successes and difficulties of her pioneering career. The doc is nicely mounted and will score with TV nostalgia buffs and those interested in Jewish-American history, but its financial prospects are best realized by the likes of PBS.

Kempner has a juicy subject in Berg, whose story strafes early-to-mid-20th century issues like immigrant assimilation, early Jewish success in Hollywood and the Blacklist. But the spine of the subject is the groundbreaking days of radio and television, when today’s clichés were yesterday’s fresh ideas. Berg’s decades-spanning creation was the fictitious Goldberg family, whose surname combined her mother’s maiden name (Goldstein) with her husband’s last name (Berg). Its first iteration was The Rise of the Goldbergs, which debuted on NBC radio in November 1929. Unlike the characters of Amos ‘n’ Andy, a more popular radio program where White actors affected an insulting African-American dialect, The Goldbergs was a homey Jewish sitcom family who faced the problems of real pre-WWII immigrants. Berg played the show’s motherly and meddlesome Jewish matriarch, Molly, who was introduced as “a woman with a place in every heart and a finger in every pie.” The elders kept their Yiddish accents. The children, one generation closer to assimilation, talked with more Americanized accents. When the radio program moved to CBS in the 1930’s it was rechristened The Goldbergs. But Berg, who wrote every episode, made sure the matronly Molly presided over serious subjects alongside the usual family froth. In one 1933 broadcast, a real rabbi conducted a Passover seder. In another, the family hinted at friends trying to escape the Holocaust. Much of this radio material still exists and Kempner includes decent-sized snippets.

Kempner’s b-roll is fairly standard (shots of Eisenhower-era families sitting around the radio and that sort of thing) and the talking heads are okay, lead by producer Norman Lear and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The director makes ample use of Berg’s wonderful interview with Edward R. Murrow, which represents the only first person insight we get from Berg. There are also numerous photos of Gertrude and her family in their younger years, the better to tell the story of her childhood. The daughter of a Catskills resort owner, Gertrude’s creativity was sparked by writing and directing sketches to occupy young guests at the resort during rainy weather. When her father Jake wanted Gertrude to run a second hotel in Florida she refused, citing a desire to do something on her own. Jake did not approve of Gertrude’s career, but her husband Lewis did. They met when Gertrude was 13. They married when she was 18. After their Louisiana sugar plantation burned down, they returned to New York where Gertrude made her acting debut speaking phonetic Yiddish in a commercial for Christmas cookies.

review

In 1974, the most celebrated American R&B acts of the time came together with the most renowned musical groups in Africa for a 12-hour, three-night long concert held in Kinshasa, Zaire. The dream-child of Hugh Masekela and Stewart Levine, this music festival became a reality when they convinced boxing promoter Don King to combine the event with "The Rumble in the Jungle," the epic fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, previously chronicled in the Academy Award-winning documentary "When We Were Kings." "Soul Power" is a verité documentary about this legendary music festival (dubbed "Zaire '74"), and it depicts the experiences and performances of such musical luminaries as James Brown, BB King, Bill Withers, Celia Cruz, among a host of others. At the peak of their talents and the height of their careers, these artists were inspired by this return to their African roots, as well as the enthusiasm of the Zairian audience, to give the performances of their lives. The concert has achieved mythological significance as the definitive Africa(n)-American musical event of the 20th Century. "Soul Power" is crafted from the extensive “outtakes” that remained after making "When We Were Kings," which documented the epic title fight, but relegated the music festival to a small, supporting role. The "outtakes" have remained vaulted for the past 34 years, until now. Lensed primarily by celebrated cinematographers Albert Maysles, Paul Goldsmith, Kevin Keating and Roderick Young, "Soul Power" finally provides today's audience the opportunity to experience this historic musical event in all of its magnificent, filmed glory.

High-priced Parisian lawyer Bertrand (Fabrice Luchini) travels to Monaco to defend a wealthy woman accused of murder. Bertrand discovers that his bodyguard, the scowling Christophe (Roschdy Zem) can be useful in a variety of ways, but the danger posed by the case is nothing to that posed by stunning TV weathergirl Audrey (Louise Bourgoin). Where, exactly, does a bodyguard's job end?

A bodyguard hired to look after a lawyer ends up protecting the man from himself in this breezy comedy from France. Bertrand Beauvois (Fabrice Luchini) is a successful fiftysomething attorney who's hired to represent Edith Lasalle (Stéphane Audran), who has been charged with killing a man with ties to the Russian mafia. Edith's adult son, Louis (Gilles Cohen), has been warned that Russian strong-arm men may try to silence his mother and her legal team, so he hires a private security team to protect them and Bertrand finds he's shadowed at all times by stone-faced Christophe Abadi (Roschdy Zem). Bertrand doesn't see the need for Christophe's presence, but when the lawyer has trouble brushing off a former girlfriend he'd rather not see, the bodyguard turns out to be a valuable ally. Bertrand and Christophe strike up a friendship, as the former is increasingly impressed with the latter's street smarts and good judgment, but when Audrey Varela (Louise Bourgoin), a gorgeous woman nearly half Bertrand's age, begins throwing herself at him, Christophe has a hard time convincing his client that something is clearly not right.

Hollywood movie Quiet Chaos 2009 Watch & download Free,Wallpapers, movie review & cast and crew and trailers online

review

With "Quiet Chaos" (Caos calma), acclaimed Italian helmer Nanni Moretti steps away from his standard directorial role to essay the lead and co-author the script in a gentle psychological drama directed by Antonello Grimaldi. Moretti stars as Pietro, a film executive whose life takes an irreversible and devastating turn one fateful morning. During a trip to the beach with his brother, Pietro's path intersects with that of a woman, Eleonora (Isabella Ferrari) who is drowning in the ocean; horrified, Pietro rushes in to save her. He subsequently returns home only to discover that his wife, Lara, just died in a nasty falling accident; devastated to the core, this nascent widower must make the necessary psychological accommodations to adjust to life as a single parent, with sole responsibility for raising his ten-year-old daughter Claudia (Blu Yoshimi). Almost instinctively, as a reaction to Lara's death, Pietro opts to sit and wait for his daughter to finish school each day (in a park across from the school), in lieu of abandoning her to his own priorities and commitments. This means that the fellow's colleagues in the film industry must, by necessity, come to do business with him in the park. Through it all, Pietro remains silently dumbfounded that the tragedy itself hasn't shaken him more, that the grief (the "quiet chaos" of the title) is subtly agonizing instead of grossly traumatizing and debilitating. Nevertheless, he ultimately begins to approach a full realization and acceptance of his loss, and gains an enhanced awareness of himself and others from the potentially crippling events thrust into his path. Valeria Golino (Rain Man) co-stars; Roman Polanski lends a cameo as one of Pietro's industry colleagues.

Hollywood movie The Hurt Locker 2009 Watch & download Free,Wallpapers, movie review & cast and crew and trailers online

review

The Hurt Locker," winner of the 2008 Venice Film Festival SIGNIS Grand Prize, is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military’s unrecognized heroes: the technicians of a bomb squad who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world’s most dangerous places. Three members of the Army’s elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad battle insurgents and each other as they search for and disarm a wave of roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad—in order to try and make the city a safer place for Iraqis and Americans alike. Their mission is clear—protect and save—but it’s anything but easy, as the margin of error when defusing a war-zone bomb is zero. This thrilling and heart-pounding look at the effects of combat and danger on the human psyche is based on the first-hand observations of journalist and screenwriter Mark Boal, who was embedded with a special bomb unit in Iraq. These men spoke of explosions as putting you in “the hurt locker.
