Review

Playhouse (2009), the Malayalam Movie by Shyamaprasad with Mammootty, Rithu is to be released on August 8th, 2009.

Film star Mammootty’s distribution firm ”Playhouse” is all set for its first release this month. It will be the film with ‘Rithu’, and it is going to be directed by Shyamaprasad. The movie features all youngsters and will open up in the theatres as the first movie from Playhouse. The film is being planned for a release on 30 stations on the 8th of August.

During the festival Onam Playhouse is planning to come up with ‘Kanakanmani’ the new movie from Jayaram. The film is directed by Akku Akbar. It is written by Gireeshkumar and it stars Padmapriya and is said to be releasing by the third of next month.

Noted director Shyamaprasad who is instrumental in creating good films like Kallu Kondoru Pennu, Agnisaakshy, Akale and Ore Kadal, based on famous literary works is on a new track with his new movie ‘Rithu’, all set for release shortly. This time he engages a freelance journalist Joshua Newton to write a youthful script for his new movie. Unlike the contemporary youth films, ‘Rithu’ will base itself on the earning youth of modern times and the different value systems they stick to. The director himself likes to call his new movie a modern day morality tale, told in the backdrop of a small south Indian town.

The movie narrates the tale of seasonal changes in the lives of three childhood friends, who grew together in the same school and college. Sarath, Varsha and Sunny, the threesome had been weaving their dreams about life together. Inseparable in their love and bonding, Sarath and Varsha were more intimate and shared more chemistry while Sunny was more like a brother to Sarath. And to revive and relish their big dreams, Sarath leaves for northern California, where he earns a good job. The other two remains in Bangalore with their smaller IT jobs, but continue with their stronger bonds between themselves.

Three years makes a big change in their life and when they reunite in their changing hometown, they realise that they have outgrow much from their actual stages of innocence and true relations. Though they share subtle camaraderie, they find it difficult to return to the bonds of original days when they left each other years ago. Sarath, who was expecting much in his return now find it strange about the total difference in mindsets, environment and interests that have come into his bosom friend's persona.

The movie will feature a number of young fresh faces including Nishan, Asif Alai, Reema Kallungal, Jaya Menon, MG Sasi and Manu Jose in important roles. The movie produced by Inner storm entertainments will be the first distribution venture of “Playhouse” owned by megastar Mammootty. Rahul Raj's music for the film in the lyrics of Rafeeq Ahamed, which is out in small screen has already earned great reviews. Rithu which is told in a fast manner is cinematographed by Shyam Dutt.

Wait for a couple of week and we are sure it will be a worth while waiting for you.
