Ellerbusch’s SummerSlam Predictions: WWE PPV (8/15/2010)
Ellerbusch’s WWE PPV All-Time Prediction Record: 6-1
I hope everyone has been enjoying my weekly Ellerbusch’s WWE RAW Examinations here on Bleacher Report and is at least somewhat excited for the SummerSlam pay-per-view this Sunday.
To recap, in my first article here on Bleacher Report, I correctly predicted an unheard of 6 out of the 7 matches at Money In The Bank PPV. The WWE Universe might have thought I was crazy, but when criticized against all odds, Kane turned out to be my best pick of the night. As posted days prior by me, “Kane will be your MITB winner and cash in later that night against the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, who will probably be Rey Mysterio.”
The only match I missed on the night was RAW’s MITB ladder match, although I was optimistic in my predictions that The Miz had a decent shot in winning. “The Miz could win MITB…I got that feeling he could sneak in and grab that briefcase while other superstars are not paying attention or something.”
Enjoy my predicitons and please leave some comments why you either agree or disagree with them.

Team WWE vs. Team Nexus
John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, Bret Hart, John Morrison, R-Truth, and TBD vs. Wade Barrett, Skip Sheffield, Justin Gabriel, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Michael Tarver, and Darren Young
In my opinion, this is the easiest match to predict of the night as I have Team Nexus being victorious over Team WWE. Rumors have circulated that Team Nexus is slated to win, but the WWE creative team is currently discussing which individual wrestler will cost his Team WWE the match. As we saw in recent weeks, Team WWE has been in disarray and we’re not even quite sure if The Miz will join Team WWE or not. Not to say that I want Nexus to win, I absolutely do not. As an unbiased John Cena fan, I think Cena could be the one to cost Team WWE in the match since it was his idea in the first place to challenge the Nexus to a 7-on-7 elimination match. Also, if Team WWE wins, this Nexus storyline has really accomplished nothing and I don’t know what would happen to The Nexus. The Nexus are a great working team and we’re just going to have to accept the fact that Team Nexus will be in the WWE for a little bit longer. Who knows, maybe the NXT rookies from Season 2 have something in store for The Nexus. It’s already rumored too for the Night of Champions PPV in September that we may see a match with 7 members of RAW vs. 7 members of SmackDown vs. The Nexus in a triple threat main event match.
Prediction: Team NexuS
WWE Championship (No Outside Interference)
Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton
Prior to last week on RAW, I was sold on the fact that Sheamus would easily win this match. But with this no outside interference clause added to the match, this may be just the advantage that Randy Orton was hoping for. My main reason for Sheamus to win against Orton at SummerSlam is because the WWE has already established that fact that Sheamus has had possibly one of the greatest breakout years in WWE history. In order to establish Sheamus in these ranks and as a possible Hall of Fame candidate one day, this is the perfect opportunity to give Sheamus a long run with the WWE Championship Belt, while other top-quality superstars such as John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, and others are focused solely on taking out Team Nexus. Despite The Miz being the owner of the Money In The Bank briefcase/contract, I think either The Miz will hold onto it for a long time or unsuccessfully cash it in either this Sunday or sometime in the future. However, Randy Orton has owned the spotlight on RAW over Sheamus with numerous RKOs in the past month. Sheamus is scared for his life facing Orton as I think this no outside interference clause will keep Sheamus in the ring and force him to wrestle in outstanding match to beat Orton. Overall, I think Sheamus will still overcome the odds and beat Orton as the WWE will attempt to give Sheamus a nice long run with the WWE Championship Belt to solidify himself in the great WWE ranks one day.
Prediction: Sheamus
World Heavyweight Championship
Kane (c) vs. Rey Mysterio
In my opinion, this is the toughest match to predict at SummerSlam. Both superstars have set up a great storyline to welcome back The Undertaker to the WWE. At this point, no one has a clue who attacked The Undertaker. But there is one thing we know for sure…if and when The Undertaker wins at SummerSlam, he is going to want revenge no matter what. I think there will be signs of The Undertaker’s return to the WWE during this match such as the lights flickering on and off during Kane and Mysterio’s match. My gut feeling tells me that Kane is going to win, The Undertaker’s music will hit as he appears in the ring, The Undertaker will then proceed to choke slam and/or tombstone Kane, which as a result sets up a future feud against The Brother’s of Destruction. Throughout this entire SummerSlam card, this match will be keeping me on my toes the most. If the WWE decides to forgo The Undertaker returning to the WWE in this match, they will suffer and critics will be furious.
Prediction: Kane
Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
The Intercontinental Championship has been long overdue in the possession of Dolph Ziggler. Dolph has earned the opportunity to finally rise above a mid-carder and make a name for himself on SmackDown, where few WWE superstars are these days. With Dolph winning the belt just 2 weeks ago on SmackDown, don’t expect fan-favorite Kofi Kingston to win it back via his rematch clause at SummerSlam. The only scenario I can see Kofi winning it back is if Vicki Guerrero does something really stupid ringside (not uncommon), and ends up distracting Dolph instead.
Prediction: Dolph Ziggler
Divas Championship
Alicia Fox (c) vs. Melina
Much like Dolph Ziggler just recently winning a championship belt, I don’t expect the WWE to drop it to Melina just because she has returned from injury and is riding momentum. Alicia Fox has really impressed me since here title reign began and her scissors kick finisher is awesome. However, the superb flexibility of Melina has gave her the upper hand in recent matches between these two. Although Melina is riding momentum, Alicia Fox is still the Divas Champion at this point and will retain it by using her scissors kick-like finisher. In the future though, definitely look for these two women to start a feud. Since losing at Money In The Bank, Eve has lost a big step and has fell to lowly level of being involved in a pre-SummerSlam Bikini Tag-Team Match.
Prediction: Alicia Fox
3-on-1 Handicapped Match
The Straight Edge Society (CM Punk, Luke Gallows, Joey Mercury) vs. Big Show
Throughout my predictions so far, I have selected all heels to win…until now. The Big Show who is a dominate force on SmackDown should have no trouble beating The Straight Edge Society even if it’s a 3-on-1 handicapped match. This match has no championship belt impact so I’ll pick the face, Big Show, to be victorious against The Straight Edge Society.
Prediction: Big Show
Rumored/Filler Matches:
Tag-Team Match
LayCool vs. Tiffany and Kelly Kelly
This is a rumored match to be taken place at SummerSlam on Sunday. Although no official announcement has been at any SmackDown events, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than one divas match take place. If this match were to take place, I would predict the tag-team of Tiffany and Kelly Kelly to defeat LayCool. In my opinion this PPV is setting up a lot of heels to walk out victorious and since I believe Alicia Fox will retain her Divas Championship, look for Tiffany and Kelly Kelly to win and draw some excitement from the crowd. Additionally, LayCool has not been happy with Teddy Long lately as he wants to split up the Women’s Championship from both Layla and Michelle McCool.
Prediction: Tiffany and Kelly Kelly
1-on-1 Match
Jack Swagger vs. MVP
After winning the Money In The Bank briefcase/contract at Wrestlemania 26, it is hard to believe that five months later, Jack Swagger is just another mid-carder looking to rise back atop the WWE ranks. And after a MVP win on this past week on SmackDown, I think Swagger is close to hitting rock bottom if he already hasn’t dating back to a few Fridays ago when Mysterio flipped him into a lake to close out SmackDown. Even though a rollup win is still a win, if this match were to occur at SummerSlam, I would expect an enraged and determined Swagger to overcome his misfortunes in recent weeks and get back on track by beating MVP.
Prediction: Jack Swagger
United States Championship
Evan Bourne vs. The Miz
I can definitely see this happening, but only if The Miz declines Cena’s and Bret Hart’s offer to join Team WWE. I can also see the anonymous RAW GM setting this match up this very night. But, if The Miz successfully cashes in his contract against the WWE Champion who I believe will be Sheamus, we may not see this match after all and The Miz might have two belts at night’s end. If this match does happen though, look for Evan Bourne to continue his push and beat The Miz and become your new U.S. Champion. Evan Bourne as the U.S. Champion and The Miz as still the owner of the MITB briefcase is what I would like to see heading into Monday Night RAW following SummerSlam.
Prediction: Evan Bourne
