The Captain of the Indian Cricket team, Ravi Indulkar, fixes a match, with the help of his teammates- Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan, and Balwinder. A reporter, Balakrishnan, uncovers this story and the players are banned. Indulkar’s girlfriend, Soha, leaves him.


Indulkar gets a chance to redeem himself when he is reinstated on the team for World Cup 2011. The bookie, Shobhan, tries to fix the match again but Indulkar refuses to go along with it. Not one to be refused, Shobhan kidnaps Soha.

In the end of the last decade of the 20th century, a slow but sure dispute between gangsters created roughness in the underworld. Some very high profile people and businessman were extorted, but the media covered this news extensively and the government took a strict action against the underworld.
World Cupp 2011" joins the list of movies based on sports. Debutant director-actor Ravi Kapoor claims he is all set to unveil the nexus between cricketers and bookies with the film that releases on Friday (Dec 18).
Kapoor, who has written and produced the film himself, plays the lead in the film that also stars Zakir Hussain, Suresh Oberoi, Prem Chopra and Smita Jayakar.

Made on a budget of Rs. 11 crore, "World Cupp 2011" also stars former cricket players Saba Karim and Nikhil Chopra as themselves. It is releasing with around 500 prints.
Kapoor claims to have disclosed almost all controversies that happened in the real world of cricket with the movie. The film shows how after the dance bars were closed down in Mumbai, the underworld had to focus on sports as a source of making money.
In the film, Ravi Indulkar is the captain of the Indian cricket team and he and his four team members - Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder - fix a World Cup match against Pakistan with a bookie called Shobhan.
The twist in the story comes when they are exposed by press reporter Balakrishnan. And Indulkar and his teammates are banned by the cricket board for four years.


Things take an interesting turn when the team's coach gives them a chance to play in World Cup 2011.
Shobhan once again tries to fix the match with Indulkar's help, but this time he refuses. In retaliation the bookie kidnaps his girlfriend and the climax entails the struggle for her rescue and Indulkar's strokes to India's victory.
Considering that the only known hits based on the game are "Lagaan" and "Jannat", it is to be seen if "World Cupp 2011" manages to attract audiences with its string of 'revelations', especially since it is the only release coming Friday.
And the braking impact was created when home minister R.R.Patil completely banned the dance bars in Mumbai.
In such conditions when circumstances was not so good. Then underworld centralized attention on sports as a source of making money, and they aimed the most glamorous game "Cricket". Ravi Kapoor is playing the main lead, as Caption Ravi Indulkar of the Indian Cricket team.

His four friends Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder, they fix a World Cupp match held in 2007 against Pakistan with a bookie- Shobhan. In December 2007, JoBlo.com reported that Jared and Jerusha Hess had signed with Fox Searchlight Pictures to produce Gentlemen Broncos, based on a spec script they had written. The deal called for Jared Hess to direct and Mike White, who co-wrote Nacho Libre with them, to produce. Gentlemen Broncos Hollywood Movie Review:

You will of course remember Jared Hess for NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and his less remembered sophomore effort NACHO LIBRE. Well here he strikes gold. I want to immediately get something out of the way and admit I was not a fan ofNAPOLEON DYNAMITE. However, I enjoyed GENTLEMEN BRONCOS so much I really am considering giving it another shot. Judging this film on its own merits, though, it is clear that Hess has created a film that maintains his beyond-quirky characters while striking a rapport with the audience and creating a contrary set of expectations. We are not just laughing at the antics on-screen, but we’re also engaging in their bizarre universe(s). What I find so inane about my writing that line is that Hess does everything he can to disengage the audience from any vehicle of emotional weight that the film had the possibility of piloting.
If you watch the trailer for GENTLEMEN BRONCOS, you have a good two-thirds of the plot in your mind-pocket before you set foot into the theater. There is a final component: the previously mentioned third version of Benjamin’s story and the central, female character (Halley Feiffer) in that subplot. Like all other relationships in the film, it is a skeleton of stereotypes we have come to expect from young love interests that never fleshes out and, frankly, is never resolved. Additionally, very little pretext is added by way of Benjamin’s history. We know, or think we know, that he adores his bearded father and he puts up withhis mother with a certain degree of love but we don’t know to what degree either relationship drives his choices. Nor does it matter by the time the film finishes.
If you stopped reading after the above paragraph, you will be leaving thinking this is a negative review. However, it was all just a setup. This movie is hilarious and extremely fun and very good. What Hess has done here is created a film that takes all of those familiar plot threads and relationships and removes the boring parts so that the core story (boy versus hero) can move along at breakneck pace. While it most certainly prevents any sort of emotional attachment, the film establishes early on that this is not one of its goals. Benjamin remains stoic and uninterested in joining in on the quirky behavior of every character around him.

Small town, the American dream. A blue-collar family living the idyllic rural lifestyle. Nothing is out of place save for the lacking white picket fence - and the old JAIL that occupies the 2nd floor of their century-old home. Seth Delray knew the possibilities before he moved his wife and two kids into the old jailhouse, but the Sheriff assured him that it would take an act of God to put that place back into service. Times were tight, and it was just too good of a deal to refuse. That is, until the county jail caught fire. The Sheriff's hands were tied and he had to put displaced inmates anywhere he could find iron bars with a locking door. The Delray house was his only option. For Seth the worst wasn't the criminals locked like animals in the soiled cages above his living room. It was the mortal fear in his children's eyes, it was the piercing cold looks from his wife. It was that deep, dark creeping recognition that something had happened there, something terrible, something that would grip his soul with hundred year old hands squeezing hate from unknown depths. No longer did the birds sing upon the morning lit branches beyond the barred windows of the old jailhouse. No one could know the confinement of such a place and the horror it brings... the bleak hopelessness of one without freedom... ...the inescapable iron bars of guilt and regret into which revenge imprisons a man's mind.

The Jailhouse Hollywood Movie Review;;

This movie really does make me go bananas. The premise is set up nicely and lays out the absurd plot of living with inmates rather cleanly. Director Billy Lewis also is very adept at the camera, and is able to provide nice zoom shots, old school “nickelodeon” style flashback sequences and interesting angle shots that liven up the festivities, even when there is no action on screen. C. Thomas Howell also knocks it out of the park as a possessed (?) new deputy who dispenses a little old school justice on the inmate inhabitants of his home, but that is essentially where the good ends. The plot, borrowing from THE AMITYVILLE HORROR in a few basic ways, is very thin and barely laid out in the film. Nothing is ever really laid out for you after the initial setup. Inmates go into their cells, Seth goes nuts immediately, inmates start to go missing, and so on. The other cops in the movie are very inept and slow-witted, even the Sheriff. The inmates, led by Stark (Rey Valentin), leave virtually no impression and make some truly dumbfounded moves (Why does Maddy only slightly slice Seth when she had all day to plunge that knife square in his head?). For an 86 minute movie, the pace tends to lag and drag due to the lack of background on the house and its previous inhabitants. The movie might have worked if details were explained or at least strongly hinted at, but then the ending essentially wrecked that possibility. I will not spoil it for people who want to see this film but let me tell you, for a movie that gives very little character or plot details through out, it certainly lays it on thick at the last minute. To be brief, the movie dumps a chunk of plot and character details in the last few minutes, and the movie, what good parts it had, was undone by the lame “twist” ending. It screams last minute rewrite (not to mention borrowing elements from the movie STAY with Ewan McGregor)

Eden Lake" - Synopsis :

Nursery teacher Jenny and her boyfriend Steve escape for a romantic weekend at an idyllic remote lake. They meet a young boy along the wy who is reluctant to talk to them. When they arrive at beach they attempt to have a relaxing day, but a group of delinquents and their dog appear. Steve stubbornly decides that he would much rather stay put, enduring their loud music and obnoxious dog, than be "bullied" by them into leaving. They stay overnight in a tent, and in the morning discover that their food has been infested with insects. Hungry, they return to the car to find someplace to eat, but unfortunately, they run over an empty bottle the hooligans left behind. Steve luckily manages to fix the tyre, and they set off for the town. While in town, Steve sees the unruly teens riding around on their bicycles, and angrily follows them. Unable to keep track of them, Steve finally gives up, and they go looking for some breakfast. In they diner they settle for, Steve asks the waitress if she has seen the kids riding around on bikes. The waitress jokingly asks if they have been terrorising Steve and Jenny. Steve laughs, and states they have only been "hassling" them, and continues by saying that he wanted to inform their parents they had punctured his tyre. The waitress then becomes strangely defensive, saying 'Not my kids'.

When they leave, though, he catches sight of a group of bikes sprawled out on the front lawn of a house, and stops the car. Jenny pleads for him to stay, but Steve determinedly gets out. Receiving no answer to his calls, Steve enters the house, but almost gets caught by the owner - the father of one of the teenagers - who returns. Steve manages narrowly to escape out of the window, and he and Jenny hastily head back to the lake.

Eden Lake Hollywood Movie Review :

Once back, Steve goes scuba diving whilst Jenny sleeps on the beach, but when Steve returns they realize the beach bag, containing the car keys and Steve's phone and wallet, has gone missing. Hurriedly, they go to check on the car, and much to their dismay, see that it is gone. Making their way back to town on foot, they narrowly avoid being hit by the car as the gang drives it wildly through the woods, stopping only for Brett - the leader - to smirk at the couple.

Later, Steve and Jenny come across the gang in the woods. Steve, against Jenny's will, confronts them. He demands the car keys and his possessions back, but Brett denies any knowledge. Unfortunately for him, the phone goes off in his pocket, prompting a scuffle, during which one of the boys produces a knife. Steve manages to grab the knife, but in the confusion ends up stabbing - fatally - Brett's dog. Brett evidently saddened by his dog's death, throws the car keys to the floor and tells them to leave. Steve and Jenny manage to find the car and start driving away, but get stuck on a steep slope. Meanwhile, Brett has decided he wants retribution after all, and the gang catch up with them and start throwing rocks at the car, breaking the windshield and smashing the headlights. Terrified, Steve and Jenny luckily manage to get the car moving again, but with the headlights out, Steve ends up crashing the car. Finding himself trapped by a tree branch which has come through the windscreen, he tells Jenny to run and to try to find help. Jenny escapes and finds somewhere to hide, where she spends the night. The next morning she cautiously returns to the car but finds Steve gone. Following a trail of blood, she comes across the gang in a small clearing, with Steve tied up with barbed wire. She watches in horror as the boys - goaded by Brett - take turns torturing Steve with their knives as Paige, the girl of the gang, is told to record the whole thing on her phone. Jenny, realizing they are about to kill him uses the bluetooth on her GPS to connect with Steve's phone. Brett notices this, realizing she must be close and orders the gang after her.
Jenny flees, the gang close behind her on their bikes. This gives Steve the opportunity to free himself from the barbed wire, and he also sets off running. Jenny manages to evade the gang, and eventually finds Steve, injured and bleeding heavily. She helps him to a shack where she tries to treat some of his wounds. She finds a wedding ring in Steve's clothing and he tells her he'd planned to propose. The gang turns up and enter the shack but they find nothing as Jenny managed to conceal both herself and Steve underneath the construction in the water. The group leaves, and Jenny pulls Steve out of the water. They decide she should go on alone, leaving Steve concealed under some leaves. Following the power lines Jenny treads on a spike and hides, for fear her screams have alerted the gang to her location. She comes across Adam, the little boy she and Steve had encountered earlier. She pleads to him for help, but he instead leads her straight to the gang who knock her out.

The Fall Hollywood Movie Reviews:

A chunk of the movie is composed of fantasy sequences as Roy spins a fantastical, sometimes nonsensical adventure story. Improvisation (or is it customization?) leads to countless narrative shifts and leaps of logic, but his story ostensibly concerns a masked bandit (Pace himself) joining up with a crew of international vengeance-seekers: an ex-slave, an Italian demolitions expert, an Indian swordsman (the unspoken disagreement over what this racial designation entails is the movie's best, perfectly underplayed gag), and Charles Darwin -- accompanied, naturally, by a monkey.

These segments indulge in the director's love of perfectly framed imagery: He's obviously fond of deserts, slow motion, rich colors, fire, and more horses -- in fact, it's possible that only select 12-year-old girls love horses more than Tarsem. He's made c ountless music videos and commercials, but the ever-shifting tall-tale narrative keepsThe Fall dreamlike, rather than, say, Gatoradesque.
The fantasy sequences were shot bit by bit over the course of four years in over a dozen countries, in downtime during various commercial and video shoots, yet the different settings -- a stone maze within a castle; a tiny island visited by a swimming elephant; the cityscape painted blue -- look surprisingly unified in their beauty. The circumstances of thefilmmaking keep coming up alongside the filmmaking itself, not because The Fall is only impressive with asterisks describing its technique, but to demonstrate the filmmaker's unconventional and dedicated approach to material that could be as familiar as watching The Wizard of Oz on cable.

For a movie with such audacious, lush, and inventive images (and, yes, production backstory), the story and themes of The Fall bring to mind a whole lot of other audacious, inventive films, including several by Terry Gilliam (particularly The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and the little-seen, mostly-reviled Tideland), and even a couple of recent ones about the transformative power of storytelling and mythmaking (Be Kin d Rewind and Son of Rambow). Indeed, the screenplay is actually based on a Bulgarian film whose title translates as Yo Ho Ho (maybe the moment when Roy mistakenly believes Alexandria craves a pirate story is intended as homage). Even given the countless sources, Tarsem obviously has forged a strong bond to this material, carrying it on the back of his day job for so many years. Occasionally, though, the film feels like a tribute, or, in keeping with his painterly frames, a restoration; he's still developing his personality as a director.

The Fall is a warmer, funnier movie than The Cell, but it doesn't pop with a particular sensibility the way the films of colleagues like Fincher and Jonze do. Sometimes the gorgeous slo-mo fantasy stuff slows to a near-crawl, as if the director was picturing a few frames, not a full scene. The scenes between Roy and Alexandria have a drawn-out quality too, but it's more natural, with both Pace and Tarsem adroitly performing around Untaru's natural, guileless charm. Ultimately, the film's originality is in its approach: its heedless, strangely fitting mixture of the technical and the ineffable.At a Los Angeles hospital in the 1920s, Alexandria is a child recovering from a broken arm.

The Story:

Although Roy develops genuine affection for Alexandria, he also has an ulterior motive: by telling tales and gaining her trust, he tricks her into stealing morphine from the hospital pharmacy so he can attempt suicide.
As the line between fact and fantasy blurs, real-life people begin to populate Roy's fictitious stories and the stories themselves become a more collaborative tale to which Alexandria also contributes. A hospital nurse (Justine Waddell) becomes the center of a romantic feud between Governor Odious and the masked bandit, who turns out to be Roy. Alexandria herself becomes a character in the story; while Roy is the masked bandit in her imaginary version of the story, she is his daughter. Mesmerized by the epic, ever-changing story, Alexandria returns to the pharmacy to pilfer another bottle of morphine for Roy. While climbing on a ladder to reach the pills high on a shelf, she loses her footing and falls, injuring herself.

After surgery (depicted in an expressionistic stop-motion animated sequence by Wolfgang and Christoph Lauenstein, typical of their style), Alexandria is visited by Roy in the recovery room, where he consoles her and confesses his deception. He can now only imagine a grim ending to the tale, and encourages Alexandria to ask someone else to tell it. Alexandria insists on hearing Roy's ending.

Following the Thai custom to cheat death and rid oneself of bad luck, a man who lays in a coffin for an evening subsequently experiences a series of terrifying incidents.In a small southern town, in 1872, a woman by the name of Clairesse La Vay was accused, tried and convicted of being a witch. She was put to death for her alleged crime by being buried alive, in a pine box coffin, in hallowed ground. Clairesse died a slow agonizing death. In 1983, the town was long gone, and all that remained were the old graveyard and the ruins of the church. A documentary filmmaker and his crew arrived to make a documentary about "the witch who was buried alive." After a series of bizarre, twisted events; the coffin was dug up, Clairesse was brought back to life, the filmmaker and three of his crew-members were dead, one crew-member was insane, and Clairesse and the coffin had disappeared. The cursed coffin continued to wreak havoc where ever and when ever it showed up. In 1986, in Louisiana, it caused a lot of grief for several young boys and a hearse with devastating results. Soon afterwords, a group of young people discovered that their dear friend was no longer who she appeared to be after she encountered the coffin on a lonely night. Years later the coffin raised an army of the living dead, in the spillway outside of New Orleans, as a young couple stumbled upon a satanic rite of the damned. In 1999, a vampire had taken up residence in the coffin, which was kept in a self-storage unit. Things got interesting when the third shift employees discovered it. Only one survived the encounter. 'The Coffin' was inspired by a controversial but true Thai ritual of lying in coffins to get rid of bad luck and prolong life. A young man and a young woman decide to go through the ritual in Thailand. After the ritual they experience what appear to be miracles in their respective lives. But soon, they find themselves confronted by a series of bizarre and terrifying incidents. With the help of a professor specializing in paranormal cases associated with the ritual, they set out to exorcise the ghosts that haunt them, and attempt to reverse the wheel of karma.

"TEMPT Fate, Cheat Death." That is the central theme of director Ekachai Uekrongtham's movie, The Coffin. It is inspired by a controversial but real Thai ritual where thousands of people turn up at a temple north-east of Thailand to lie in coffins because they believe this rids them of bad luck and prolong life.
Chris (Ananda Everingdam), a claustrophobic architect, goes through the ritual to save his dying fiancee, Mariko. Sue (Karen Mok), a nutritionist from Hong Kong visits Thailand and does the same to save herself from cancer, one week before her wedding.
After that, both of them experience what appear to be miracles. To Chris' delight, Mariko awakes from her coma. Sue not only survives a car accident, but also finds out that her cancer is gone.

However, strange and frightening things start to happen. Chris and Mariko are haunted by a woman in white (Napakpapha Naprasitte), and her baby. Sue's fiancee, Jack dies suddenly in a car accident but spirit still lingers around her.
With the help of a professor specialising in paranormal cases related to the ritual, they set out to exorcise the ghosts haunting them and reverse the wheel of Karma.
The Coffin opened at number one at the Thai box office and we can see why. Shot in provinces across Thailand including a 100-year-old temple and real cemeteries, the film features terrifying yet beautifully symmetrical scenes, like hundreds of coffins arranged in a circle around a gigantic Buddha and a long closet full of mirrors on both sides.
The movie also shocks when least expected, after you let your guard down.

Credits has to be given to the performance of the actors. Ananda Everingham and Karen Mok truly bring out Chris' sensitivity and Sue's vulnerability. Napakpapha Naprasitte's villainous but heroic character is played out excellently as well.
However, the plot remains unclear as there are no links between Chris' And Sue's stories as I write The Coffin Movie Review and we never discover the woman in white until the very last moment.
All in all, this is a thrilling yet moving tale about coming face-to-face with living and dying.

Cairo Time Hollywood Movie Review :

The time is actually the present, which makes it all the more a welcome relief to catch a film set in the Middle East that is bereft of bloodshed and violence and political turmoil. Cairo Time – winner of the Best Canadian Feature Award at the recent Toronto International Film Festival – is an elegantly understated story of unlikely love.
Apart from the splendours of Cairo, the pivot to this picture is magnificent American actress Patricia Clarkson. She is cast as Juliette, an oh-so-reserved, seemingly repressed magazine editor who comes to Cairo to hook up with her husband, a United Nations representative stationed in Gaza. But when his work delays him from their rendezvous, he dispatches Tareq (Alexander Siddig), a friend and former UN colleague to show her around.
Tareq, who now runs a coffee house in the city, knows all the charms of Cairo. Tareq is also unfailingly charming. Happily married though she may be, Juliette can’t resist his Old World charm. She is totally captivated.
Their relationship is initially rooted in cultural confusion. She tells him how happy she is to visit the Middle East. “Middle of what,” he innocently responds. He has never understood that designation for this area.
Juliette then tells Tareq that her daughter is studying creative writing in college. Again, he is befuddled: “How is she ever going to make a living?” Juliette has no quick answer for that one.

Their romance simmers below the surface, threatening to explode but never quite doing so. Which makes the movie all the more enticing. In Hollywood, the couple would have hit the sack five minutes after the opening titles. If this had transpired here, viewers would have been denied breathtaking visuals of Cairo.
Besides, the principals here are far too well-mannered for that.
This romance is largely played out on another level. Despite the lack of physical contact between the couple, Juliette undergoes a spiritual awakening and connects with her emotional longings for the first time in eons. Subtle, yes, but oh so powerful all the same. Credit director Nadda for capturing the richness of Cairo and for giving her actors free rein to express feelings. She has a delicate touch, but she achieves what she set out to do.
Siddig – hard to believe he’s the same dude who played Dr. Bashir in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – is all class as the ever-genial, sensitive tour guide.
But if you want to talk acting, Clarkson – who has dazzled in everything from Far From Heaven on the big screen to Six Feet Under on the small screen – delivers a near-flawless performance. Her voice barely rises above Cairo’s street traffic, but – whoa! – she emotes with the best of them: a tiny flick of the hand, a shake of her hair, a darting eye movement speak volumes here.

Nadda concurs that Clarkson is the glue. “This is a simple love story, and I knew I had to get the perfect actress to bring it to life,” says Nadda, 36 – no slouch in the charm department herself – who is in Montreal to promote the picture. “Patricia was my first choice, and she is just dynamite. I needed someone who wasn’t going to overact – someone who could say it all with subtle facial expressions.”
Nadda was born in Montreal and spent 10 years here before moving with her family to Damascus, then to Toronto, where she currently resides.
My father said this week that leaving Montreal was the biggest mistake he ever made. When he first left his native Damascus, he settled in Toronto – for two weeks. Then in the middle of the night, he decided it was ridiculous for him to be in Toronto and he drove to Montreal. He said Toronto was just so dead then.” (Then?)
Her fascination with Cairo came about while she was living in Damascus. “We would go to Cairo for vacation. It was like the Hollywood of the Middle East for us, so beautiful and intoxicating. The history and the atmosphere are so rich. Something magical happens when you arrive there. The city just left this imprint on my brain, and I was never able to forget it.”

Nadda notes that it’s also refreshing to see a “chick-flick,” not a war flick set in that part of the world. But she is quick to add that the romance on screen is not based on her relationship. “My boyfriend is about as far removed from Cairo as possible,” she cracks. “He is from Newfoundland and Canadian through and through.”

On the subject of Canadiana, Nadda finds it ironic, too, that Cairo Time took best Canadian film honours at the Toronto fest. She might be Canadian, but Clarkson hails from New Orleans and the Sudan-born Siddig lives in London. David Collins, one of the producers, is from Ireland, and exec-producer Christine Vachon (Far From Heaven, Boys Don’t Cry) is a Yank.
“Even more ironic is that my previous films, set in Toronto, were rejected by the Toronto festival,” Nadda says. “And they were Canadian in every sense. There is no pretense about Cairo Time being Canadian – other than it was Canadian financed. It’s just a film, but it wins for best Canadian film. So it goes.”

How to Seduce Difficult Women Hollywood Movie Review :

He was my great inspiration,” said Mr. Temtchine, a Paris-born movie producer and former hairstylist who is going to give a lecture, “How to Seduce Difficult Women,” in New York starting at the end of January. We were at Le Bilboquet, the tiny East 63rd Street bistro favored by Brioni-clad Euro men and their ladies. The frosty reception that had greeted my entrance melted like April snow once it was clear I was there to meet “Reee-charrrd!”

Not particularly tall, Mr. Temtchine has a boxy stature, salt-and-pepper tousled hair that’s long enough to grab in fistfuls, and a face that resembles Mikhail Baryshnikov’s. (The specifics of his age turned out to be a bit murky. “When I need to be childlike—which women adore!—I am 10,” he said. “When I am in love, I am 20; when I am not, I am 20 plus tax, and I pay a lot of taxes!”)

“Like so many men today,” he continued, “Cyrano was trapped in shame, unable to face himself, or love. But me, I love being who I am! If more people loved themselves … they wouldn’t have such a hard time seducing others.”

I surveyed him as I slurped some melted ice from the bottom of my glass and chomped on it, because it was late and I was kind of hungry. The father of two and a Harlem resident, Mr. Temtchine was married just once, at 20. (“I had to get away from my mother.”) One of his children resulted from the marriage; the other from a long-term relationship. He spent 20 years working in New York as a hairstylist, “making beautiful women even more beautiful,” all the while listening to their complaints, their desires, their frustrations with men. Then he turned his attentions to Hollywood, producing films including the Adrien Brody ventriloquist movie, Dummy, in 2002. He’s currently directing a film he wrote, titled, yes, How to Seduce Difficult Women, about a French man in New York who helps the relationship-challenged learn the art of seduction. The film is expected to open in the summer.

His seduction film and lecture arose when he realized his decades as a hairstylist made him one of the few straight men with an all-access pass to the portal of feminine insight. The lectures, the first to be held at Opia on East 57th Street on Jan. 28, will feature Mr. Temtchine along with five “gorgeous and difficult” women whom he chose at random from coffee shops and cafes, using a sixth sense that, he explained, told him they were difficult.

Based on Neil Gaiman's 2002 best-selling children's novella of the same name, "Coraline" completely sets itself away from any other kid films out there that heavily relies on predictable plots and possibly even animal jokes. Bringing you the same director who did "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "James And The Giant Peach", Henry Selick's film adaptation of the novella may come across as disturbing for kids as it takes audiences inside a dark and creepy environment that he's commonly known for.

A young girl named Coraline is bored with her mundane life at her new home and unengaged by her workaholic parents when she discovers a secret door in the house. The passageway leads her to the Other World, a parallel reality that seems similar to her life, only much better. Her Other Mother and Father are seemingly the perfect parents. However, when the adventure turns dangerous, she must save herself and family and find the way to get back home.

The awards-winning actress Dakota Fanning lends her voice for the character Coraline. Often mistakenly called as Caroline, Coraline is an unpleasant child who frequently complains and does not like to make friends. Other stars who lend their voices include "Desperate Housewives" actress Teri Hatcher as Mel Jones and Caroline's Other Mother and Jon Hodgman as Charlie Jones and Caroline's Other Father.

The visuals in "Coraline" are strong and exceptionally well done, bringing you the same type of visuals as in "The Nightmare Before Christmas". There are some stunning set pieces, mostly placed in Other World such as the garden and the world's strangest theatre. Hello My Love South Korean Film Review :

In "Hello My Love", girl falls in love with boy, but boy falls in love with boy, breaking girl's heart. The movie adds an exotic twist with things Parisian as well as a touch of something trendy with wine lessons to sugarcoat the sensitive subject matter of homosexuality in South Korea.

One may think of the sexually explicit epic "A Frozen Flower", but this feature film debut by Kim Aaron is more akin to Hong Ji-young's trendspotting romance "The Naked Kitchen". It is essentially a romantic comedy with a rather unconventional love triangle strewn into strictly mainstream themes of heartbreak, loss and growing pains.
The two childhood friends-turned-lovers have been dating for 10 years, and Ho-jeong waits with glee for Won-jae to fulfill his promise to propose to her once he returns. The wedding seems to be only a formality, as orphaned Ho-jeong is already part of Won-jae's family.
Won-jae however hasn't come back alone ― his roommate from Paris, wine sommelier Dong-hwa (Ryoo Sang-wook), never seems to leave his side. Ho-jeong pouts but waits patiently for Won-jae and Dong-hwa to set up their new wine restaurant. But little does she suspect that Dong-hwa literally meant it when he said that "With Won-jae's cooking and my knowledge of wine, we're the perfect couple". (The movie tries to make things more palpable for those less comfortable with homosexuality by adding an element of exoticism, as if getting in touch with one's true nature is only possible in the city d'amour).

When Ho-jeong finally discovers the truth, her world comes crashing down. An audience member once cried on her radio show that his wife suddenly came out of the closet ― "I understand you must be shocked but wouldn't your wife be the one in the most pain, having to deal with an identity crisis? Would it be impossible to try to understand her and embrace her, on a human level?" Likewise Won-jae begs her for her sympathy, saying he discovered his true self through Dong-hwa, but things are often easier said than done.
The two male leads also bring freshness to the screen, but their one-note characters sometimes seem to stop short of endorsing stereotypes about sexual minorities. Likewise, caricatured supporting characters are often inserted in a desperate effort to propel the storyline or evoke unremarkable comedy.The pretty-faced actors make physical displays of affection ― calculatingly in skin-baring tank tops ― but the romance isn't as convincing through most of the three-way tug of hearts. Jo touches the viewer with her very real tears, but the deep bond that her character supposedly has with Won-jae isn't even as compelling as the relationship she shares with her senior colleague.

Musician Mo-zi (Mo Tzu-yi) is a washed-up guitarist and singer forced to distribute his band's album himself. To make things worse, his live-in girlfriend Kasey (Lu Chia-hsin), is a music star on the rise with a best-selling album and a growing legion of fans.
As Kasey's career takes off, Mo-zi struggles to pay off debts and faces eviction. Their relationship strained, Mo-zi refuses to accept any help from Kasey. He even rejects the song she writes for him every year on his birthday.
The musicians' relationship provides a memorable soundtrack of Mo-zi's rock songs and Kasey's pop tunes. But it is the feelings of the musicians that are most striking.

Young police trainee Peping (Coco Martin) studies criminology during the day and at night work part-time for a drug syndicate for extra income. He uses his money to pamper on his girlfriend Cecile (Mercedes Cabral). As he is about to get married to Cecile he is desperate seeking for more money. If there's one thing about widely marketed Filipino movies which should improve dramatically, it's sound--I absolutely loathe the annoying synthesized staple background music being forced upon us each time the characters are set to spew their spit with their loud, hammy dialogues, or whenever someone is about to cry. That's why I applaud local indie films which at least feature original scores or unusual songs to give better local color to the story. Some experimental films by some of the innovative, unpopular directors even skip background music in order to give a sense of realism to their films. And what a relief--here comes Brillante Mendoza's "Kinatay"--which I believe outscores--pun intended--every Filipino film for its masterful exploration of sound and its effect on people.

Kinatay Philippines Movie Review :

"Kinatay"--before it won the Best Director Award in the most prestigious film festival in the world--was butchered by various international critics when the film was screened in Cannes. They blamed the unsteady video and the lack of light in about half of the entire film. Even the famous critic Roger Ebert dismissed "Kinatay" as the worst film ever screened in Cannes, even going as far as saying that he wanted to apologize to Vince Gallo for saying the same remark about his "The Brown Bunny." (I had the misfortune of seeing Gallo's film and I thought that Ebert should not retract his statement about Gallo's horrible, conceited trash.)

This sadistic manipulation of sound, for me, is crucial to understand "Kinatay." Mendoza wanted to make the audience fear more for the victim by making them see less details and hear more. By making the cries of Madonna nonstop and interspersing with the curses of the police officers, the audience feels equally threatened, abused, and angered. The background music reinforces the atmosphere of terror as it sounds like a masterful and unique score of a thriller or horror film.
I actually think it's pretty obvious that since the visuals are intentionally dark and shaky, the director wanted the audience to hear the movie out instead. Unfortunately, many viewers (critics included) are already blinded by digital spectacles. How ordinary it is for modern viewers nowadays to see a film just because the movie has good visual effects. There are only a few people who after watching a film goes out to say that the film has superb score or background music.
